From EW:

“It’s not going to be an R-rated movie because I want the 12- and 13- and 14-year-old-fans to be able to go see it,” says Ross. “This book means too much to too many teenagers for it not to be PG-13. It’s their story and they deserve to be able to access it completely. And I don’t think it needs to be more extreme than that.” He promises though that his vision for the movie will be just as stirring as anything found in Collins’ prose. “I don’t need to have a huge prosthetic budget or make this movie incredibly bloody in order for it to be just as compelling, just as scary, and just as riveting.”

So, what do you CBMers think? Will he really be able to capture the brutal nature of the novel within a PG-13 rating? Discuss!

Aww Man! This book is too violent for it to be faithfully adapted with a PG-13 rating. :-(

Not necessarily, it's pretty amazing what you can do when you imply certain things rather than show them outright. Sometimes you can make it even more powerful by not showing things directly.

Besides, nowadays it's not difficult at all to get PG-13 and still show a lot of violence.

pg 13? A little hard to believe they can show what happens in this book at that rating... especially when it gets to "Mocking Jay"
