An Uncharted movie has been in the works for years now but it's one of those projects which has continuously stalled for a variety of reasons. While most fans of the iconic PlayStation franchise believed that a direct adaptation of the games was in the works (or at least a retelling of those), we recently learned that Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland will take on the role of Nathan Drake.
That's because Uncharted is going to delve into the character's origin story, seemingly serving as a prequel of sorts to the four-part franchise. It's an approach which has divided gamers but director Shawn Levy has explained why both they believe this could be this generation's Indiana Jones.
"I met with Tom Holland and he put it really succinctly," Levy explained in a recent interview. "If we do the origin of Drake, that hasn’t been done before. It’s a Drake chapter that hasn’t been told … an Indiana Jones story for a generation that didn’t grow up on Indiana Jones." It's a fair point and does at least make it easier to cast the character when Nolan North's portrayal is so damn memorable.
Whether or not Uncharted could serve as Indiana Jones for a new generation of viewers is another matter altogether, though. What do you guys think? As always, be sure to share your thoughts below.
