UNCHARTED Movie Starring Tom Holland Loses Director Shawn Levy

Sony Pictures has been trying to bring Nathan Drake to the big screen for years now, but the movie just took another huge step backwards as it's lost director Shawn Levy. Find out more after the jump...

Well, it seems as if it's "Game Over!" for Shawn Levy and the Uncharted movie. The filmmaker has left the long-delayed video game adaptation in order to take the helm of Fox's Free Guy instead.

That starts production next April and is based on a 2016 Black List script by Matt Lieberman. It revolves around a bank teller (Ryan Reynolds) who realises that he's actually an NCP (non-playable character) in an open world video game. It's then that he teams up with a human's avatar to try and save both the game and the world.

It sounds like a really fun concept and it's easy to see why the Real Steel director has decided to board this project rather than wait for Uncharted - which Spider-Man: Far From Home star Tom Holland is attached to star in - to become a reality.

Fans weren't happy with Holland being cast as Nathan Drake because they don't seem particularly interested in watching a movie about a younger take on the character. Throw in the fact that a fan-film starring Nathan Fillion was met with rave reviews, and Levy might be better off doing something different.

After that Sicily scene in AquaMan I want James Wan to do it. If they MUST make an Uncharted movie.

NCP? [frick]ing spellcehck, come on...

Anyway, just get the director from the fan film, get Nathan Fillion back and carry on from what was started in that fan film and there's your theatrical film. Done.

Years ago I would have said Joe Flanigan would be perfect for the part, now I hope this movie never gets made and making an Uncharted movie about a young Nathan Drake needs to not ever happen.

Warner Brothers should step in and buy the right to the film and begin to world build with its Tomb Raider franchise. Uncharted should star the Tomb Raider's real life husband...

@Forthas - Michael Fassbender would be a horrendous choice for Drake. Have you even played the games?

@Ragnarocknroll - Why?

@Forthas - are you insane? Awful casting, and also what do you mean “world build with its Tomb Raider franchise”? Tomb Raider and Uncharted are not in the same world, nor should they be.

@Forthas - How about 'why' would Fassbender actually be right for the Nathan Drake role? That's a major miscast.

@CrazyCipher - Michael fassbender is an ACTOR...he becomes the character he needs to be!

@PicolasCage -

"Tomb Raider and Uncharted are not in the same world, nor should they be..."

Niether is King Kong and Godzilla. Are you suggesting it is a mistake to put them in the same universe because they were not before?

@HubbleFunk - Fassbender has a lot of range as an actor. Although he often portrays sinister people, that does not mean he can't play a sympathetic hero. He is right for the role because he is a well rounded actor with great range and the respect of his peers in acting which has led to Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe and SAG awards nominations. He is such a respected actor, even Jason Mamoa reached out to him and asked him for advice for his role in Aquaman

In this particular case in a shared universe, I presume he would have a natural chemistry with Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander. So for those reasons he would make a great Drake.

So far no one has indicated WHY he would not be a good casting choice.
