Playdom rolled out its third Special Operations in the critically-acclaimed Facebook game called the
Avengers Alliance. The new chapter's storyline is inspired by the
Avengers vs. X-Men comic books.
“The Phoenix Force, a cosmic entity of death and rebirth, has returned to Earth. It's a power some would fight for, and it threatens to tear the alliance apart. The X-Men would use this force for good, believing that the power can be harnessed to ensure the survival of the mutant race. The Avengers believe it's too dangerous to control, and will only bring destruction. With the future of mankind and mutant-kind alike hanging in the balance, who's side will you choose?” — Chapter Briefing
The Avengers consist of Hulk, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Captain America, Thor and Black Widow. X-Men consist of Emma Frost, Colossus, Cyclops, Magik, Phoenix and Storm. Spec Ops missions are chapters offered only on a limited time. Each combat and deploy costs Unstable Iso-8 (orange-colored for Spec Ops 3: “Avengers vs. X-Men”), a flavored resource that vanishes after each special event. Several premium weapons can be won after boss fights.
Starting a Spec Ops 3 mission will ask you to choose a side. This choice will determine what heroes will be available to you for the duration of that mission. It will also directly impact which boss rewards will drop. The player's choice is not permanent and can be changed once the mission is over or has been aborted.
Finishing the chapter requires the player to earn 3 stars for each mission and complete all 25 tasks. This will unlock the new hero, Magik.
