The entertainment industry suffered a great loss last year with
the passing of the legendary Stan Lee. Co-creator of Marvel Comics, Lee's work influenced and touched the lives of many. His work in the comic book industry also helped shape many of today's entertainment industries, including video games.
In an effort to memorialize Stan Lee, Blizzard has created an NPC tribute of him and placed him within their popular MMORPG
World of Warcraft. As reported by WowHead, and seen in the video below, the 8.1.5 patch in the Public Test Realm has added an NPC named "Stanley" to Stormwind, the Alliance stronghold. While the name is spelled differently, the character very much resembles Stan Lee, from his grey-white hair and mustache to his iconic to his iconic glasses. And if that weren't enough, the character roams around saying "Excelsior!"
So far, Stanley has only been spotted in Stormwind, sporting the armor of the Alliance. However, two additional Stanley models have been discovered: one in neutral colors and garb, and another wearing Horde-inspired gear.
Stan Lee was a legend in the entertainment space and it's cool to see Blizzard pay their respects with an NPC of him.
