Ubisoft's upcoming adaptation of post-apocalyptic video game The Division has found a director. According to THR, none other than David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2) has landed the gig, and will also produce along with stars Jessica Chastain And Jake Gyllenhaal.

Stephen Gaghan was previously attached to direct, but has since left the project.

Leitch was also recently tapped to helm Universal's Fast and Furious spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, and that will almost certainly shoot first as it's set to go into production this fall.

Just in case you're not familiar with the premise of the game, here's a synopsis:

"The Division is set in a near future where a pandemic virus is spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating New York City and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, is activated in an attempt to save who and what remains."

Never played this... been out of the loop on games for a while. Any good?

@RorMachine - Ehhhh, it's fun until end game. Story line is really cool, graphics are nice, but end game is boring and not enough to do.

Can definitely be a great film, especially with this talent attached.

Was a very hyped game, that didn't live up to the expectations (surprise, surprise). Overall, solid game...had some fun moments and good gameplay.

@RorMachine - I agree 100% with @menks123 cool premise that could have a lot of potential for a movie franchise if done right

@Menks123 - Hi😊 Was it a Co-Op game only or could it be played solo? I liked the idea of it but always thought it was co-op only so never got it.

@ChangAlang - You can play solo for sure, but there is a certain area more for end game that is very focused on teaming up. It's a fun game and has great graphics and good mechanics.

You would think there would be more of a priority to get that Splinter Cell movie with Tom Hardy into production.

Also, after all these years, how have we not had a Rainbow Six movie yet?

Interesting... The game was pretty cool, but there really wasn't much to do after the storyline was over. The world was great and I enjoyed the combat and everything, but it ended up becoming really repetitive.

Gyllenhaal has been attached to this for awhile - I'm surprised he hasn't exited the project yet.

I don't see this one breaking the supposed 'video game curse'.

Fun game though.

@Repian - Didn’t they try something for this where the audience selected the outcome? I’m talking YEARS ago when I was young...

The game got repetitive FAST, but it was very immersive for the most part. I really enjoyed the story and concept. Very cinematic.

Will be interesting to see if Leitch can bring something new to the pandemic trope.

It's amazing how so much shit is green lit with huge budgets. I have great ideas, but it seems a shitty idea is the main objective nowadays lol
