Screen Gems' Monster Hunter gets an official release date of September 4, 2020, Deadline reported today. Paul W.S. Anderson's take on the Capcom video game series has been in development since 2012, but principal photography on the film began just three months ago in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Monster Hunter adaptation will focus on two protagonists who come from different worlds and must cooperate in fighting monsters in order to survive. This adventure film is being helmed by Anderson (Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon), who also produces the upcoming picture alongside his long-time Resident Evil Collaborators: Robert Kulzer, Martin Moszkowicz, Jeremy Bolt and Dennis Berard.

The full Monster Hunter cast includes Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil, The Fifth Element), Meagan Good (Calinfornication, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues), Diego Boneta (Rock of Ages, Terminator), "T.I." Harris (Entourage, Ant-Man and The Wasp), Josh Helman (Jack Reacher, X-Men: Apocalypse), Jin Au-Yeung (2 Fast 2 Furious, Coco), and Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them).

Considering that Labor Day weekends are usually packed with new movie releases, it's pretty surprising that Monster Hunter is currently the only feature film set to launch during that holiday next year.

The latest entry in Capcom’s Monster Hunter video game series, titled Monster Hunter: World, has sold over 11 million copies worldwide since its critically acclaimed launch on January 26, 2018.

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her loyal soldiers are transported from our world to the new world, the unflappable lieutenant receives the shock of her life. In her desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers and unstoppable, revolting attacks, Artemis will team up with a mysterious man who has found a way to fight back.

Well, he directed Death Race, Event Horizon, and Soldier, so... at least he made some enjoyable movies out of a lot.

Monster Hunter: World is one of the best games I've ever played,so naturally, I hate that these people are working on the movie.

Why did Capcom greenlight this?
Didn't this guy do enough damage with Resident Evil?
(BTW, the RE 2 remake is incredible!)

@ThunderThighs - Um. Because the Resident Evil movies were very successful and had 7 movies made?

Look, I hate the RE movies. I've been playing RE since the original. But Capcom themselves did nothing but hurt the RE franchise for quite a long time. Re 5 and 6 are abominations to the franchise. Thankfully RE7 and RE2 Remake were fantastic and it's back on track.

But at the end of the day, this idiot and his wife made a movie franchise that made a ton money and lasted for 7 (I think?) films. Can you blame them for letting them make a movie of one of their other popular games?

@CorndogBurglar - If you put it this way: No, I can't.
Still don't liek the idea, but I see why they do this movie.
Let's hope the supposedely planned Netflix series will do the RE games justice.
Keeping a sharp eye on it.

@CorndogBurglar - The only reason any of them made money is because he makes them for dirt cheap.
The production budget on most of them is under 50 million dollars.
Adam Sandler movies coast more then that.

@shadowspider9 - Well then you are just giving another reason for them to use him again for another film franchise.

It doesn't matter that he made them for dirt cheap. If he can make movies cheap and bring in enough people to turn a big enough profit to warrant continuing making sequels then that is a good thing in the eyes of the producers.

Films don't all have to earn a billion dollars to be successful. It all comes down to how much they paid to make vs how much they earned. Profit is profit.

@CorndogBurglar - Sad but very true.
Anderson is basically the American version of Uwe Bowl.
Making horrible video game movies for dirt cheap so that no matter how bad they are they will still make money.

@shadowspider9 - Haha. Well, I mean as much as I can't stand Anderson and hate his Resident Evil movies, I would watch those 100 times before watching anything Uwe Boll touched.

Allowing that guy within 100 feet of a camera should be criminal.

That must have been one hell of a deal with the devil Anderson made that allows him to keep making movies.

@DukeTogo13 - I doubt it. I'm sure the budget wont allow for any of the best parts of the game.
