Gina Torres On Her WONDER WOMAN Fan Campaign; Says She'd Still "Love To" Play Her

Around the time of Joss Whedon's Firefly, Torres was a big fan-favorite to play Diana on the big screen...and while that was quite a while ago now, the campaign is still active. The Suits actress gives her thoughts on that to Vulture after the jump..

Gina Torres' Zoe was one of the most popular characters on Joss Whedon's incredibly popular Firefly tv series and its spinoff movie Serenity. Torres' portrayal of this "warrior woman" along with the fact that she happens to be gorgeous and pushing 6 feet tall led many fans to campaign for her to take the role of Wonder Woman if a live action movie ever got off the ground. The actress (44) realizes that this is probably unlikely to happen now, but in an interview with Vulture she reveals her love of the character, how delighted she is that the fans are still behind her, and that she would still love to play her.

"You know, she is a superhero that has been a part of my life since I can remember, and it is incredibly gratifying and heartwarming and wonderful that this campaign continues to have a life — even though it might be maybe three or four people that are keeping it alive. [Big laugh.] I love them! I don't know how realistic it is. Of course I would love to do that. Who wouldn't in their right mind? And why not? Well, there are all kinds of reasons why not. But yes, it is a fantasy. And it's a hoot. It's a hoot that every now and then, all these years go by, and people are still thinking that I could do that; I could make that wonderful and they will come and see it. I can't even tell you how that feels."

She is, unfortunately, too old. I could DEFINITELY see her reprising her role as Vixen though!

But she's black. I'm not racist. It's just... just she's black. Maybe batman should be chinese and the flash should be 400 lbs... What is wrong with these people????

Please read HER WORDS. She is simply stating that the suggestion is flattering. She is NOT advocating herself in the role.

deepee3, exactly. It's shocking how many people on here don't actually read an article properly before launching into a tirade against something they THINK it probably says. Kinda sums it up really though.

You know, as the large breasted sex symbol kinky whip Wonder Woman Gina Torres doesn't work.

As an amazon, I could see Gina Torres doing an awesome job on that. There is no reason an Amazonian couldn't be not-white.

nothing to do with ethnicity. She just isn't Wonder Woman. Now that newly crowned Miss America- I could buy her as Wonder Woman(physically)

Wonder Woman shouldn't be white. But I don't think she should play her.

But didn't you say the "too old" excuse with Bryan as Lex isn't valid?

Idiot logic: Mandarin sucked in IM3 because he wasn't accurate with the comics, but a black hispanic can play WW though.

Like what WW is going to talk with a heavy Hispanic accent in the movie......SMH!

Actually that would be funny here is a video on how we do talk her in New Mexico......Trust me folks this is 100% accurate.

I did!
But Lex isn't doing flips, hoppin' around, throwing people through walls, chucking cars, or going toe-to-toe with Superman unless he's wearing a power suit.

Honestly kids, a black Wonder Woman looks better.

And GOOD LUCK trying to find a Greek actress in Hollywood whose talent measures up to your expectations.

The more you state you're not racist, the more you appear to be, dummy. Tone your ignorant mind down a bit. You sound like a cop profiling Gina Torres, calling her black when she is clearly Hispanic. That's exactly how cops profile.
some_text

Anyways, she does have the body and attitude to pull off Wonder Woman's personality, but yeah -- too old and Hollywood would never switch up the race of a major character like that to someone of a darker skin tone. Will 'never' happen, but it's nice to see she has such dedicated fans. She's awesome in my book. I think since Buffy the Vampire Slayer, lol.

But Gina is black. Hispanic is not race. Hispanics can be either white, black, mestizo, pacific islander looking or in my case - sephardic.
