Bryan Singer Says DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Is Not Just A Sequel To FIRST CLASS Or X-MEN 3

Bryan Singer made quite the stir yesterday, announcing Evan Peters for Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Controversy aside, just what exactly is Singer trying to accomplish with the film?

Quicksilver news aside, X-Men: Days of Future Past is shaping up to be quite the ambitious project from 20th Century Fox. By all accounts it will be the studio's first film that looks to create a shared universe comprised of all the characters the studio owns from its Fantastic Four and X-Men rights. Director Bryan Singer hints that something more is looking to be achieved other than simply combining a large contingent of X-Men actors into one film. "It’s not just another X-Men film; it’s not just about the combined cast as there will be certain technologies and other stuff that we haven’t seen before in the X-Men film. There are also issues of time and we’re messing about with that. I think we’ve got it figured out. I pitched it to James Cameron when I was in New Zealand last year and he said, ‘Yes, that makes sense.’”"

It's speculated that the film will be aiming to undo some of what's occurred previously in X-films and look to position the franchise in an ideal position to move forward in a cohesive cinematic universe comprised of characters like the Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Deadpool and a host of other characters. We wanted an opportunity to bring some of the favourite older and younger characters together. We also wanted to play with the notion of different times and stuff like the way that time affects destinies. It enables the film to not just be a sequel to First Class or X-Men 3 but to actually be its own thing."

Some interesting statements from Singer but with the latest developments and the apparent opening gambit in what could be a protracted Cold War with Marvel Studios, I think a pressing question is just how much has the film changed since First Class director Matthew Vaughn decided to drop out?

I'd actually rather QuickSilver stay with the X-films. There's plenty of other material for Joss to play with..

I think it will be a masterpiece....he has learnt his lessons from SR. Whatever happens can't be any worse Origins or X3!

I hope they make a reboot after this, let Charles get a glimpse of the future in this one and have him work to create a better team of x men to keep the future from turning into the sentinel ridden post apocalyptic mess it is now

Whatever. Won't be as good as Tyler Perry's Why did I get Married 3. That's right I'm starting the Marvel-Tyler Perry flame war early y'all. Madea> Wolverine.

Well that's saying a lot- how much worse than Origins or X3 can you get ?
And of course DOFP will be its own thing- the other films are too screwed up to warrant anything being a sequel. You already had Emma Frost in Origins...then First Class...you had Xavier Stewart in Origins meet Wolverine then Xavier McAvoy try to recruit him in First Class....Alex Summers is older than Scott now who is presumably dead...Jean is dead- maybe....Beast smurf has a thing for Mystique in First Class but barely knows her in X3...two Moira McTaggerts neither one very interesting...two Sabretooths neither one very interesting...Baraka Dead Pool.....Fred Dukes aka the worst Blob anyone could have ever imagined...oh yeah we had Gambit- pass.
Well Singer you can't get any worse than the crap storm you are following but Superman Returns sucked and Jack the Giant Slayer sucked so...yeah whatever.

I think this will be almost as good as First Class. I do love mutant cameos

This from the superman returns genius?

If it's not a sequel to the other two then what the hell is it?!

Also the fact that "James Cameron" is his reference for something making sense worries me

You can personally look forward to every X movie....doesn't mean its going to be good...as history has proven. So bitch on that.

I think Singer has bitten off more than he can chew, I want this to be good but this seems like too much for him to handle; he's made some solid films both inside and outside the X-Men but personally speaking, his bad outweighs his good, so I remain skeptical especially with this forced seeming inclusion of Quicksilver

I would prefer Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to stick with the X-Men rather than the Avengers but this seems like a '[frick] you' to Marvel so I'd rather not have them included

I'm really looking forward to this movie, but the Quicksilver problem has put a dampener on things. They've already got loads of mutants returning along with a large amount of new ones too, so why they needed Quicksilver cannot be justified. It was just a low move from Singer and Fox.
That aside, I have to admit I'm really excited for it Days of Future Past. Mainly to see all the mutants, but I'll see how it looks when we get the first trailer (which is ages away.)
