As 20th Century FOX's New Mutants movie prepares to wrap production, director Josh Boone has taken to Instagram to announce that they've entered into the final week of shooting. His post also provides a first glimpse of the film's bloody logo - though chances are this won't be the final title treatment.

Boone has previously stated that his X-Men spinoff would be a “full-fledged horror movie", and this logo definitely seems to suggest that he wasn't exaggerating.

Hopefully we'll get to see some of the young cast in costume when the movie officially wraps, but for now check out the image below and let us know what you think.

New Mutants is set to hit theaters on April 13, 2018.

That felt like a really short shoot

@HULK2099 - I don't think it was short necessarily, but contained. They didn't really film anywhere outside of two locations... which given that the film mostly takes place in one hospital...

@HULK2099 - Most filming is short, usually less than 30 days. Only reason it takes so long for release is post production and cgi work which can take a whole year. BVS and Man of steel took 1 to 1.5 year just for cgi.

Not filling me with a lot of confidence.

@TheUnworthyThor - Your confidence is logo-based?

@TheUnworthyThor - So far all fox spinoffs have been amazing. I get that being unfamiliar with the property can lower expectations. I was not familiar with Suicide Squad and had the same feeling. Now I Hate SS.

@mastakilla39 - Oh I'm super familiar with the New Mutants.

@nibs - Not the logo, the fact that production started mid-July is already wrapping up without the normal leaked pics. Confirms they really did turn the first New Mutants movie into a small budget self contained horror movie. Not something I'm super excited for this property to be.

@TheUnworthyThor - I guess its a good thing that its based on a horror story then.

@Ryguy88 - Yes a New Mutants story that would have been close to last on by wishlist to see adapted to the big screen.

@TheUnworthyThor - Im not sure that most people would agree with that, but what would your first be?

@TheUnworthyThor - I kind of agree with you about not being excited for this to be a horror film. But to be fair, one of their most important events was dealing with demons and Limbo. Its how Magik got her sword. I'm just not so sure they should do that for the first film. Maybe build to that?

@mastakilla39 - X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The Wolverine. Both are abysmal.

Logan and Deadpool are fantastic.

Unless I'm missing another X-Men spinoff that means half of them have been amazing. Not all.

Not 100% sure how an X-Men/Horror combo would really work... Is X-23 in this one?
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 9/12/2017, 10:49 AM
@Kman - Don't think so.. apparently it's heavily influenced by the Demon bear saga, which brilliantly combines superhero/horror elements. Actually, it's pretty much a horror story with a bit of superheroes right at the end.

@RorMachine - ok... im not too familiar with it(i'll have to check it out), but im interested. I would like to see some more X-23 though.

Is it taking place after Logan?
Yaf
Yaf - 9/12/2017, 11:36 AM
@Kman - It's going to be heavily 80s-influenced, but given that most of the film will take place in a hospital, they won't give a defined date I believe. Having had said that, Daniel Cudmore was spotted on the Montreal set.
mastakilla39
mastakilla39 - 9/12/2017, 12:27 PM
@Kman - I assume it will be like SPLIT 2017 or IT 2017. Similar tone and atmosphere to those films. Highly recommend those films if you have not seen them.

@mastakilla39 - Where it's a self contained movie, and you don't find out it's connected to the larger universe until the end?

I have faith in Josh Boone, he seems like the right guy for the job. Having said that, i'm done paying money for the Fox movies. We're so spoiled for choice these days, that i can pick and choose where i get my superhero fix.
