BOX OFFICE: Early Tracking Numbers For X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Revealed; Will It Beat ALICE To #1 This Weekend?

As of right now, X-Men: Apocalypse is somehow he worst reviewed instalment in the franchise to date, but just how much of an impact will that have on its box office performance this coming weekend?

The negative reviews for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice didn't hurt the movie too much during its opening weekend, but it felt the impact of negative word of mouth in the weeks which followed. Whether or not the same will apply to X-Men: Apocalypse remains to be seen at this point, but Deadline reports that early tracking has it performing similarly to X-Men: Days of Future Past

Early estimates have the Bryan Singer helmed released debuting with around $80 million, though some apparently believe it could go as high as $100 million. Unfortunately, it won't feel the benefit of IMAX screens as Disney's deal with the company means that Alice Through the Looking Glass is going to dominate the giant sized screens this weekend. However, that's only expected to make between $55 million to $60 million, so it looks like X-Men: Apocalypse is definitely going to end up at the #1 spot.

Surprisingly, X-Men: Apocalypse reportedly cost only $178 million to make, 11% less than Days of Future Past. As a result, Fox will more than likely be happy with the movie earning something similar to what that did back in 2014. Based on its overseas debut, things are looking good anyway, so despite the reviews, don't be too shocked if Singer and Simon Kinberg are brought back for the next one.

It wasn't as good as DOFP, unfortunately.

Not even the Quicksilver scene was as good, and you can tell they spent less money on it.

Ouch. That's some hardball, right there.

That's interesting to know about the budget. You can feel it in the film itself.

I think this is hitting too soon after BVS & CACW. It will probably do less than BVS.

@ManDeth - Most likely. Probably will do just below DOFP numbers.

The low budget makes sense after seeing the film. Some of the CGI was appalling.

Definitely the weakest out of the new trilogy but still a solid movie.

3 out of 5

After watching this last week, I am embarassed to have been a former supporter of Bryan Singer. X-Men Apocalyse was an embarrasing disaster and a blemish on the franchise.

The budget is only $180M? That's probably because this movie doesn't have the star power that DOFP had.

Worst reviewed? What about Origins?
