X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Is 'More A FIRST CLASS Sequel,' Confirms Bryan Singer

Teasing viewpoints and other "ancient mutant" aspects of the titular villain, director Bryan Singer and X-Men: Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg discuss Apocalypse and the sequel's source material.

The director and writer behind this summer's X-Men: Days of Future Past, Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg, discussed the “inbetweenqual” and its forthcoming sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse, in the latest Empire Magazine issue (via SuperheroHype). “One thing that interests me is the notion of ancient mutants,” said Singer. “What would people thousands of years ago, without the benefit of science, think mutants were? And more importantly, what would mutants thousands of years ago think they were? Gods? Titans? Angels? Demons? And if such mutants did exist thousands of years ago, what became of them? Did one survive?” Singer also made an effort to confirm that Apocalypse is “more of a First Class sequel,” but it will “take place some time after this movie. What happens in this movie brings about what'll happen in that movie.” Simon Kinberg, who is currently helping Fox studios to establish their own Marvel Cinematic Universe, talked with Empire about the comic book storyline which X-Men: Apocalypse is seemingly based on. “Age of Apocalypse was one of my favorite stores,” he said. “We like the stakes of it, and it feels like a story that could impact a lot of our favorite characters in big, dramatic ways. We feel it's a very different story from Days of Future Past. For starters, it's a very different villain, and the characters will be in very different places emotionally.” What do you think?

After X-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23, 2014, X-Men: Apocalypse will hit on May 26, 2016

"X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Is 'More A FIRST CLASS Sequel,' Says Bryan Singer"

Well shoot, that kind of discredit's whoever the guy was that said DOFP would wipe First Class from the time line.

DOFP is Fox's 2nd most expensive movie ever made. I am going to laugh when it does not make the money back in theaters.

I can't wait to see how Fox screws up Apocalypse because yall know they will. It's in their blood. I also can't wait to see how Fox supporters try to convince themselves that Singer's bastardization of Apocalypse is the right way to go.

This was obvious. Only an idiot would have thought otherwise.

No worries I am sure Singer will find a way for Wolverine to time travel again so he will be the main focus of the movie........

Get Cyclops & Jean right then I'll have Singer's back. I thought the first 2 X-Men movies were decent but not great, and Superman Returns was meh. Singer has had many more not-good movies than he has good movies IMO, and I think a lot will be determined by this film.

Bring back Cyclops and Jean, throw in Cable and Maddie Pryor maybe Dazzler and Majik... then I'll begin to care.

sounds pretty cool, hopefully its a good movie, i dont care about source accuracy because the movies are its own universe , another universe like 616,earth 2 or the ultimate universe and as the same with those universe, as long as u give me a good story, good characters that i can invest in, i am gonna be cool with it

Didn't everyone know it was part of the First class trilogy already?

Wait a second. Didn't the whole Apocolypse thing started because Xaiver's son from the future tried to kill Magneto and it created some sort of messed up timeline because of it? I don't really remember much about it other then Magneto was leading the X-Men.

@ Baroness

Lol! Yes it will be Wolvie 8 because he'll be stuck in the past.

i think the rumor of the timelines splitting is true,i think the original xmen timeline and the first class timeline will split meaning that the originalxmen timeline will remain the same meaning that x3 andorigins are still there while the first class timeline will split from that and then anything goes for that timeline

I think McAvoy, Fassbender and Lawrence are an amazing talented trio that have done wonders to the X Men franchise.
BUT with someone as powerful as Apocalypse, I can't help but think that this story would be better suited for the older more experienced X Men.
And it would give them a reason to bring back Jean and Scott as Horsemen.

AGoodHonestMan, yeah, Xavier's son was Legion, I think. Age of Apocalypse was the coolest. I remember Wolverine #90 was a great issue, too.

Singer also said soon after he announced the movie that it was going to star the First Class cast.

Rumour has it that Wolverine conciousness will stay in his 70's body.:P

Yeeah, we're going to end up with the classic and Age of Apocalypse timelines. Each timeline will get a movie. First Class 2 and XForce. I can see it.
I'm still expecting Wolverine to become Cable. They'll see that as a way to keep Hugh Jackman in the franchise as he ages.
Giznad
Giznad - 1/30/2014, 8:14 AM
If the rumor of Wolverine as Death(or War) and Apocalypse possessing Magneto are both true, that could mean Magneto(or whoever) could use Wolverine as a weapon and make him fly or some shit. That sounds crazy but cool
CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 1/30/2014, 8:15 AM
I hope the "rumour" of Logan being a Horseman is utter bull.
I don't want Wolverine anywhere near the First Class franchise.

If Wolverine became Cable, then XForce could be his gig away from the XMen movies.

I wonder if Age of Apocalypse will get a Fantastic Four cameo.
I'm sorry but Xavier, Wolverine, Beast, Magneto, Mystique seem to be the only holdovers from DOFP so they are going to need some help against the Horsemen of Apocalypse not to mention the big A himself is no slouch.

beane2099 - 1/30/2014, 8:18 AM
Having the events of DoFP lead into Age of Apocalypse is a great idea. It's parsimonious in terms of connecting these two stories. But I'm not sure I want to see Singer's version of Apocalypse. He'll probably be a weak old man clad in a black cloak and he'll want some specific mutant for some mcguffin. If they go full Apocalypse I'll be very surprised.

I do think the temple or wherever the future x men are is related to Apocalypse in some fashion though.
AGoodHonestMan
AGoodHonestMan - 1/30/2014, 8:19 AM
So where will this movie take place in the Past? Present? Or Future? Or are they gonna pull the Past team to the Present? Or will Apocolypse from the Future go back in time to the Past to battle for the Present?

Hopefully the APOCALYPSE comes from the Bryan Singer's X-Men after DoFP's fiasco.

I'm hoping Jean and Scott will be recruited into the X Men next.
As well as Storm.
