Next, word from The Albany Herald is that the production are interested in shooting in the Albany Civic Centre in December. However prior bookings may hinder that..

ALBANY, Ga. — Production officials affiliated with the Hollywood prequel “X-Men: First Class” have contacted city officials about possibly using the Albany Civic Center for use in the film, e-mails obtained Monday show.

With officials already on the Georgia coast, site coordinators have contacted the city about renting the facility for the month of December, Assistant City Manager Wes Smith said.

There are conflicts with existing events that have already booked the Civic Center for events in December, such as Albany State University’s Winter Commencement, which could hamper the studio’s ability to use the facility.

“The city has been contacted for possible use of the Civic Center as part of current filming. At this time, existing event contracts in the arena for early December preclude them coming in as initially requested, but I have offered them an alternative set of dates and have not heard back from them,” Smith said Monday.

In an e-mail from event coordinator Tiffany Fleschert to Smith, Fleschert writes that studio site coordinator identified as “Roberto” had inquired about various dates to rent the facility in December.

If the production were to come, it would be a boon for the city both in terms of recognition and economic development.

City officials estimate that the production crew would bring around 100 people for a month into Albany, all of whom would eat and stay here, patronizing local businesses.

Details of the negotiation between the studio and the city weren’t made available Monday but Smith said that he’s willing to work with them without bumping local events.
