X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Was Partially Written In Claudia Schiffer's Hospital Room Due To Rushed Production

For whatever reason, 20th Century Fox were in a rush to get X-Men: First Class into theaters (rumour has it they were worried about the rights reverting to Marvel Studios). As a result, when Matthew Vaughn was hired to direct the reboot, there was a gap of only fourteen months between the release of Kick-Ass and his 1960s-set X-Men movie.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Jane Goldman explained just how under pressure they actually were to get the script finished in time.

"They wanted to get the script written in three weeks while going straight into preproduction," Goldman recalls, adding that she and Vaughn even had to discuss the film in a hospital room, because the director's wife, model Claudia Schiffer, had just had a baby.

"I remember he and I meeting up in her hospital room. That was very tolerant of her. I'd go home and write for 16 hours a day. I do remember it being a very, very frantic time and Matthew was already starting to look at sets and actors. I remember it being a huge scramble."

First Class went on to be a hit, and while some fans didn't appreciate the lack of mutants like Cyclops and Jean Grey, it was the breath of fresh air the franchise needed at the time. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender's portrayals of Professor X and Magneto were also fantastic, and while Days of Future Past was enjoyable, it didn't quite capture the magic of Vaughn's film.

What did you guys think about X-Men: First Class when it was released back in 2011?

Kind of crazy this film wound up as good as it did. Fassbender and McAvoy were both just fantastic in these roles, hard to tell they got so little prep time to work on it

@Doomsday8888 - Dude if the movie was just about Magneto hunting down Nazis, I would have watched this more than twice in the theaters

@Doomsday8888 - Fassbender, man. What a beast of an actor. Hope he starts choosing good movies again, was on quite a streak for awhile.

I liked First Class, but always feel cheated that we didn't get the Magneto revenge flick, where he hunts Nazis.

Fassbender was great in it and loved his scenes, where he comes across as a Rutless James Bond, but can turn on the charm when needed.

I know that this is one of the better regarded X-films, but to me it’s highly over-rated. Most of the stuff about Magneto is great, and most of the rest is... not, in my opinion.

X-Men FC...what a beauty. Main take away from that was the proclamation by many Critics that Fassbender would be the Next BOND based on the first 45 minutes of FC. He would have been good. But glad Craig didn’t leave until now.

First Class was good...but Days of Future Past...❤️❤️❤️❤️

Days of Future Past probably has three scenes that haven’t been matched by many CBM this century.

- Xavier/Magneto argument in the plane.
- Quicksilver (the good one) slow mo prison run
- Xavier saves Xavier

That Xavier/Xavier scene...maybe only Batman/Joker interrogation, Logan Funeral and Tony Stark Death deserves to be in the same room.

A couple of good scenes doesn't make a good movie, X-Men:First Class should have been the original team.

At least they're back at Marvel now, you there was a time when people said in here Marvel would never gets the rights back.

@marvel72

What makes it a bad movie?

“ X-Men:First Class should have been the original team.”

Oh, okay.
