24 Revival Once Again In Discussions At Fox - Will Kiefer Sutherland Finally Return As Jack Bauer?

24: Legacy didn't last particularly long, but Fox is once again mulling over a new take on the franchise that may, or may not, bring back Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer. Find more details after the jump!

24 ran for nine seasons on Fox, with a TV movie sandwiched just about in the middle. The quality of the series definitely declined in those later seasons, while the spinoff series - 24: Legacy - was not well-received by fans. That's because Jack Bauer was M.I.A., and given how underwhelming a conclusion his story received, a return feels long overdue.

Now, Deadline is reporting that there's a chance it could happen, because Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn has confirmed that the door is open to the show returning...in some form.

"There’s still a possibility, there’s still some discussions with the producers on a take that we have yet to hear," he noted. "There [are] some active creative discussions that are happening." This echoes recent comments from 24 executive producer Howard Gordon who said a new take on the show is "always percolating" but "not official, sort of, until I think all the pieces come together."

We can't imagine Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer would be the lead of this new series (the previous iterations, including an origin story for the CTU agent, are no longer in the works). However, it would make sense for him to be a pivotal part of proceedings, even if it's just to wrap his story up in a way that satisfies longtime fans of the iconic series.

Things have changed a lot since 24 first launched, of course, and it's hard to imagine that it would so heavily feature torture and clichéd Middle Eastern stereotypes.

We'll keep you updated as we learn more!

9 seasons, how about something new, fresh and exciting?

Should have ended at 7 and never back, I mean it was an enjoyable season after 6 became a spoof of itself and gave a great ending, Bauer at piece with himself and his daughter, dying but his daughter coming back to help him have a chance at living, didn't need 8 or 9

The concept of the show could still hold up pretty well I think, so I can definitely see the show return in some form or another.

It was a great show and a very popular lead character. I don't know if they could push it for multiple seasons, but one more season with Kiefer would be great - they ended the last one with Jack being packed off to Russia and very little closure. The 24-reboot just didn't hit the same spot.

Jack Bauer is one of my favorite main characters of all time on tv. Live Another Day was one of the best seasons of the show, I would love to see a similar season with fewer episodes. I can't think of a better tv show from the same genre.

Given that the show ended with Jack getting taken away by the Russians here's a simple but effective plot idea:
As the Russian government announces the death penalty for Jack Bauer a team consisting of Tony, Chloe and Kim attempt to break him free. However they only have 24 hours to save him as the execution is set for the following morning and to be televised.

The A plot would be about the team trying to break out Jack, while the B plot is about Jacks life in prison.

@Blergh - As part of the newest round of prisoners, who should be locked up with Jack? A soft spoken tattooed man by the name of Michael Scofield.

Yup, it's a 24/Prison Break crossover, ya'll!

Please no. We’ve moved on from 24 haven’t we? It was great when it first hit our tellys but come on give us something new.

Reminds me of X-Files they never can properly wrap up a story before getting canceled again.
