With production ramping up soon, casting is now underway for Hobbs and Shaw, The Fast and the Furious spinoff that Universal fast tracked after the duo’s dynamic chemistry in The Fate of the Furious. Having a spinoff is relatively new territory for the series, yet the project is slowly becoming one of its most intriguing installments to date, with Deadpool 2 director David Leach on board to helm the Dwayne Johnson-Jason Statham led film.
Knowing that the franchise revolves around family, it is no surprise that the first casting news to come out involves a Shaw sibling. Vanessa Kirby, known for the Netflix series The Crown, has been announced by Variety to have joined the franchise’s more unpredictable household. The family, which already includes Helen Mirren's Magdalene, Luke Evans’ Owen and Jason Statham's Deckard has been one of the series’ highlights over the past few years.
Those who have watched The Crown will definitely be on board with Kirby, who has already shown tremendous talent in the Netflix TV series. In addition to being a sibling to the lead, her character will also fill the role of a MI-5 agent, which contrasts from her crime-ridden siblings.
With a screenplay by Fast and Furious “architect” Chris Morgan, expect a fresh take on the franchise July 2019.
