Indiana Jones 5 is set to take place in 1969, with the iconic adventurer finding himself in the midst of the race to land a man on the moon. Empire (via ActioNewz.com) reveals that we can expect a major action setpiece to take place during the Apollo 11 ticker tape parade in New York City, and a first look at Boyd Holbrook's villainous Klaber has now been revealed.

We don't know much about the character at this stage, but the Logan star tells the magazine that, "I’m a lapdog to Mads [Mikkelsen], and a crazy one at that."

Understandably, there's a huge amount of excitement for the next Indiana Jones movie, though it's we are heading into this one knowing that the fifth instalment will be Harrison Ford's final appearance as the character. For the legendary actor, now was the right time to bid well to arguably his most famous role.

"I just thought it would be nice to see one where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey," Ford explains. "If a script came along that I felt gave me a way to extend the character."

For director James Mangold, "It became really important to me to figure out how to make this a movie about a hero at sunset," he says, explaining that it was a priority for him to take this movie further in that direction. "The issues I brought up about Indy’s age were not things I thought were being addressed in the material being developed at the time."

"There were ‘old’ jokes, but the material itself wasn’t about it," the filmmaker adds. "To me, whatever your greatest liability, you should fly straight towards that. If you try to pretend it’s not there, you end up getting slings and arrows the whole way."

We have a feeling this movie is going to be something really special, and a do-over for Ford after the disappointing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull back in 2008.

Indiana Jones 5 is set to be released in theaters on June 30, 2023.

Boyd And Mads as the antagonists sound like a stellar match. Between that and Mangold directing - I have a good feeling this will be a great final film in the franchise.

I never understood the appeal of changing iconic dynamics of a franchise in the very last installment. Indiana Jones was always in exotic locations and ancient ruins of some type or another, why now set him in New York?

I know I know, wait to see the movie.

Maybe it's like Indy meets National Treasure and he finds secret underground stuff within New York on this Moon Landing mission... just feels odd.

@TheVandalore - I think it's just for part of the film. Like you usually still see his college and stuff.

This movie is gonna be awesome. It already "LOOKS" 10x better than KOTCS did from the lighting/cinematography side of things.

Staying optimistic for now, but this actually feels like a CLASSIC Indy adventure!

James Mangold is one of the last few directors left in our mordern era of films with actual respect to characters but also deliver a complex and interesting story to boot. Taka Watata on the other hand… example of a talented filmmaker vs a Marvel lackey

"though it's we are heading into this one knowing"

Reading this hurt my head. Does this guy ever proofread?

Also, referring to Crystal Skull as "disappointing" is an opinion. It irks me that this author continues to present opinions as facts in his so-called news stories.

@captainireland - it's an internet comic book site, not the New York Times. He can opine all he wants. All these stories are essentially editorials.

@SATW42 - it's presented as a news story. If he wants to give opinions, that's fine, but preface it with "in my opinion" or something similar. And either way, it doesn't excuse poor proofreading.

@captainireland - a "news" story on a website about comic book movies. Like, what are you a jaded journalism major whose decided this is the hill to die on? Typos and opinions on entertainment internet sites?

@SATW42 - no, I'm a news editor myself. Clearly, I have struck a nerve with you. Didn't mean to ruin your day. Good evening to you.

@marvel72 - I'm learning to sort and file my canons to fit multiple. In my opinion the are a few different Star Wars canons and im learning to sort them. Kinda like all the different versions of ninja turtles, some do it for me and some don't, but I can learn to cut the crappy ones some slack cuz I have my good ones lol

Darn excited for this one! Love Indy, and Mangold has a great filmography under his belt.

I think Claber will turn out to be the true villain of the movie with Indy and Mads working together to stop him. Mads probably does have true intentions that Indy initially can't see past but Claber eventually overtakes him as the bad guy when he realizes Mads is no longer "one of them"
