Sherlock Holmes' Guy Ritchie Doubted Robert Downey Jr. & Jude Law's Acting Chops

Guy Ritchie:
"I think we're more confident that we were on the last one. I certainly feel that. I feel certainly more confident that these two can act, which I was f***ing dubious about the first time round!

"I think we hit the ground running on this one. But we knew what we were doing."

Jude Law:
Jude"Although we immediately got on, there was a certain amount of dancing around, working each other out. This time it was, 'Great, let's go.' "

Kind of hard to believe that Guy Ritchie of all people would doubt someone's acting abilities. Isn't he the same guy that directed Madonna in 2002's torturous Swept Away? Yeah I know he was married to her and she sunk her claws into him, and almost derailed his career entirely with this stink bomb, but he still chose to do it.

He could've told his then wife, "Hey Madge, you can't act a lick, oh please stop singing you aren't very good at that either." That would've made me happy. Right Mr. DJ? Oh, you couldn't hear me cause that skeleton of a pop star told you to turn the music up.

How dare you question the ability of Robert Downey Jr.? My god he is one of the finest actors in Hollywood by far. His performances saved movies from being average time and time again. How good is Less then Zero without Downey Jr.? How about Iron Man? The guy absolutely slayed that role. He added so much charisma to a character that wasn't exactly multi-layered.

And Jude Law, eh he can have his doubts about him, I do. I loved him in Gattaca, and Road to Perdition. Both movies didn't depend on Law to carry the films.

But Jude is most the times in my opinion just window dressing for a film. He was a drag on The Holiday which is a very good movie. Jack Black co-starred in that film and surprisingly gave a more believable and ultimately better performance.

Even the remake of Michael Caine's Alfie was as much fun to watch as it is to see butter melting on hot bread.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows hits theaters December 16th 2011. STARRING: Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes, Jude Law as Dr. John Watson, Noomi Rapace as Sim, Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty, Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes, Eddie Marsan as Inspector Lestrade, Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler, Kelly Reilly as Mary Morstan

@nailbiter111, I think that Ritchie had doubts if they can act good together (which is essential in the SH movie), not their individual acting skills per se, just saying...

I guess Guy Richie never saw Chaplin or Gattacca then. :oP

Until Sherlock Holmes every one of this guys films look liked a rate 90's MTV video using the same stupid gimmicks and editing style.

Plus he was the first to cast [frick]ing Vinnie Jones thereby giving him an acting career forcing us to endure his 'performances'.

Hated this mockney toff with all is hideous 'gangsters, and geezers and guns' bullshit.

Sherlock Holmes is the first film he did that had any genuine heart.

Oh, and Rocknroller is [frick]ing awful!! Thats what happens when Madonna tells Guy Ritchie how to direct a crime flick.

Orphix, your opinion would matter if you didn't just insult of the best movies of our generation accidentally, and that movie was Snatch.

@Valar1 Yes he was. Ethan Hawke used his identity to get into the space program, becuase he was in the wheelchair (and killed himself in the end).

he is the director, madonna case was different, many people would have made the same mistake purely because of the fact that she is his wife (eg Ben affleck)

it was a reasonable doubt to have about RDJ playing a Brit, but for everyone's sake he and Jude both pulled it off awesomely,i don't think its purely coz of RDJ that Sherlock was so fun but coz of bot their chemistry,Jude was a big part of it just like in star trek between Kirk and Spock

so looking forward to the sequel, hope it will at least deliver the same amount of fun as the first movie did

I LOVED Gattaca, I just remembered what that movie was (I watched it in biology a couple years ago). Really great work on Jude's part, and Hawke was just as good alongside him.

... and eh. RDJ is alright. The only reason people love him on this site is because of Iron Man. If it wasn't for that, no one would care at all. I prefer A Scanner Darkly to Iron Man. RDJ was really good in that, and even Keanu Reeve's managed to do good.

RDJ won me over with Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang. He is an awesome actor, Iron Man wouldn't have been a huge hit without him.

His casting sucks, he gave the role of Sherlock Holmes to someone who bares no resemblance to the character's famous description what so ever. Then he cast Mark Strong as the villain when Mark Strong actually bares as near on exact resemblance to Sherlock Holmes as you can get! This isn't casting, this is a popularity contest to make box office.
