We continue our look at a few films that you may have not realized were based on the things we love so much, Comic Books!

Time Cop

Time Cop is a film based on "Time Cop", a serial written by Mark Verheiden and drawn by Phil Hester and Chris Warner which appeared in the series Dark Horse Comics, published by Dark Horse Comics.

The Mask

The film is a crime fantasy comedy film based on a series of comic books published by Dark Horse Comics. This film was directed by Chuck Russell, and produced by Dark Horse Entertainment and New Line Cinema, and originally released to movie theatres on July 29, 1994.

Road to Perdition

The film is an American period drama directed by Sam Mendes. The screenplay was adapted by David Self, from the graphic novel of the same name by Max Allan Collins. The film stars Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jude Law, and Daniel Craig. The plot, taking place during the Great Depression, follows a mob enforcer and his son as they seek vengeance against a mobster who murdered the rest of their family.

And there you have it! Hopefully I provided some information that you may not have known and most importantly maybe some of you will seek out some of these comics and read them.

Hopefully it will open up doors to comics that you may not have otherwise ever thought about and will give comics other than "Super-Hero" comics a try.

Again I knew all of those were CBM's. Maybe general audience doesn't know that those movies are based on comics but I think that in a site where people love CBM's that's known to a lot.

The only one I didn't know was road to perdition. The first time I saw the character of The mask was in a cross over with Barbwire. its been about 15 years since that so can't remember if it was actually any good. I dated a girl before who had seen all 3 blade movies before finding out, from me, that he was a comic book character. Needless to say, once she read some of the back issues I had she hated blade 3 :D

I remember the mask comics being really dark, road to perdition was an awesome movie! I never knew Timecop was a comic book though, that is really funny to me. I was just watching that on T.V. the other day.

In the comics, The Mask was much like Freddy Krueger. A sadistic crazy psychopathic jokester in a form of a Tex Avery cartoon. So at least the movie stayed true to one of the features of this character, right? lol. So when New Line asked Chuck Russell to direct this movie, who directed the third Nightmare on Elm Street movie, Chuck decided that this would work out as a comedy more than a horror film. Originally New Line wanted to make this into their new horror movie franchise, to replace the Nightmare franchise, since that one was already dead. But in my opinion, this movie does work a lot better as a comedy, than a horror movie. And after this movie was released, it exspanded to an animated series, which led into a comic book mini-series adaption of that show, which led to people thinking that the movie was based off from that comic book. lol. I would know, my friends had thought of this for the longest time, and me being the comic nerd had to explain it to them. lol. But nah, I don't believe that everyone thinks that, I was only joking. :P

Anyways, great article @ashley76! :D
