DEADPOOL Director Tim Miller Teases That An Announcement For THE GOON Is Expected Soon

The Goon is one of those projects that's had very little information trickle out about it in recent years. However, Deadpool director Tim Miller says that an announcement is coming, and very soon.

With Deadpool being a smash hit, director Tim Miller has used that success to springboard interest in to his longtime pet project: An animated film based on the comic book series, The Goon.

A Kickstarter was launched for the project that raised enough money to get what is described as a "story reel" together, and the last update on the page contained this blurb: "efforts took an exciting step FORWARD. While we can't release specific details, plans are firming up inside Hollywood to put THE GOON on the road to becoming an animated feature-film reality."

Collider recently spent some time with Miller at a comic book shop where he was asked to speak about The Goon, and where they were with it. Not only did he talk up the project, but confirmed that an announcement for the film is imminent.

Eric (Powell) is amazing, we've known him for a long time now. I have known Mike Richardsonat Dark Horse for a long time, and I tried to get the comic, so they said yes, and we developed it. Eric wrote the script, which is F***ing great. Which I think, normally with these things in Hollywood, the creators are often pushed aside. We didn't want to do that, we brought Eric right in. And Eric wrote the script, its great, it's just a hard one, because it's not Disney, it's not G rated. So it took a while. Then we pitched it, and we got a lot of nos, and then we did a Kickstarter, and we raised a lot of money to do it. We've done a story board animatic for the whole movie, and we used it to pitch it. We are going to have an announcement soon, I can't make it quite yet, but it will happen. We have never given up.

All the test footage that has been shot has featured Paul Giamatti as Frankie and Clancy Brown as The Goon. Miller also said that he, "pitch(ed) it as Army of Darkness meets Goodfellas," to the studio, which sounds insanely awesome.
