Dragonball Fanboys Give Me a Head Ache!

Dragonball Fanboys Give Me a Head Ache!

Tired of fanboys crying? Tired of seeing a movie thoroughly trounced by people who don't even know how to use basic grammar? Well I am!

Dragonball, soon to be a major motion picture!

Umm...ok, was my first thought. How in the world are they going to make a decent live action movie based on this?

The answer to this question seems to be- they are not. At least this is the general concensus among Dragonball fanboys far and wide.

The question that I have for fanboys is this- how would you do this movie?

I am not here to argue that Dragonball really does not look anything like the original story. It does not. I am not going to tell you I think this movie looks great, so far it does not. I won't even ask anyone to give it a chance, I already know almost every one who is complaining is going to go see it.

What really irks me (enough so that I have made this Demonwolf's first editorial) is how irrational people are. Please, please, please make yourself sound intelligent. Do you really think that Fox is going to read your poorly written rant and say, "Oh this guy named Goku96 is right, Piccolo should have green skin...because white skin 'sux'."

Please look at things objectively. Give pros with the cons. Use proper grammar.

We are all entitled to our opinions, ranting can be a good outlet for stress. All I am asking is to be reasonable and rational when discussing these things.

I am in now way a "fanboy". I am a fan, but people who generally call themselves "fanboys" are the ones who are too closed minded to accept anything decent about the upcoming Dragonball movie.

I think it looks epic, don't believe me, watch the trailer.

where to begin...well for starters, Piccolo, much to the disbelief of most people, IS GREEN! check it out for yourselves.

Well, instead of me just going and listing what i think is going to be great about the movie, have a look at the trailer for yourselves.

I'd never have Goku go to High School, that for me destroys the character, he is a sort of hermit that grew up cut off from the real world (therefore his constant amazement of everything that happens). Not a teenager in high school learning math, science, history, making friends, going to parties, etc.

The whole movie just doesn't look in any way shape or form faithful to the original. The fighting styles in the film don't match those in the manga or the anime and more or less are just regular martial arts moves.

I also agree with NoobMike that you can't throw him into High School. His wonder and amazement at things were half the fun. I remember watching the original anime and it would always be funny how he would misuse simple thing like showers because he didn't grow up with them. Putting him in a High School setting may make it so they're drawing in a larger audience but I think it will be met with far more disappointment.

Casting is also looking like a fatal flaw here. While some characters are okay (Bulma and Chi Chi) others are completely unfaithful. Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi just doesn't fit. I think he's a wonderful actor but I don't think he's right for the role. Master Roshi should be a lecherous old man who looks like he can barely stand up not some dignified looking fella who just looks out of place in a Hawaiian shirt. Goku is another horribly cast character. Firstly, they should have cast someone younger, secondly they should have cast someone Asian. I think the second part is the most believable. These stories about the average white kid who trains to become versed in martial arts in a matter of weeks just doesn't flow. Look at Forbidden Kingdom. Dreadful movie. I expect Dragonball Evolution will be just as bad or worse. At the very least it will be much more harshly reviewed because they're butchering a classic series with their unfaithful adaptation.

On the plus side, I'm glad to see Piccolo is green.

master roshi sans beard is enough to make me distance the movie completely from the show.
as long as the fight scenes are crazy I will give this movie a chance, but my hopes are close to nil

Master Roshi has to be a perverted old man, I don't care how family safe they want it to be. They can still show some of that without making it PG-13 or R rated.

OK, the trailer actually does look somewhat entertaining, i'll give them that. But as for the rest of the complaints, they are pretty well founded, this is just barely, by the most minute percentage, looking anything like Dragonball. Of course, that could be why they changed the title to Dragonball: Evolution, to show how they evolved the story into a complete crock of shyte. But, master roshi is young, Goku is in high school, I don't see a Yamcha, or klillin, or Korin, or Hero (Hercule). Where's Mr Satan or whatever his name is? Am I just mixing 2 different series together with these characters, if so, someone please stop me. But seriously, this is SO far from the inspiration (ok, Goku's outfit is spot on, sort of) I just don't see this garnering any serious kind of fan base. EXCEPT those families who take their 8 year old sons to see this because it's so Power Ranger, TMNT, look at me I can do flips and shoot fireballs from my arse look that they just have to take them...

The Evolution title is to distance itself from the original series and yes IonParallax you're mixing yourself up a little bit. Mr. Satan is a Dragonball Z character.

To be honest, I think they should have just started from DBZ. The stories are more interesting and can be translated into almost pure action movies. It's also meant to be set in modern times. Characters like Goku (who could be a young adult 20-30) would be relatable do a wide audience without pissing people off, unlike now where any fan of the original Dragonball is ready to gouge out their eyes at the fact Goku has gone from awe-struck child to regular-shmo teenager.
