ANN reports:

The Yahoo! Japan website began streaming a new 70-second teaser trailer for Takashi Miike's live-action film adaptation of the long-running Nintama Rantaro ninja comedy anime series on Thursday. The film will open in Japan on July 23.

In Nintama Rantaro, Seishirō Katō plays the title role of a ninja apprentice at an elite ninjutsu academy in historical Japan. As first-graders, Rantarō and his ninja-in-training friends are called "Nintama" — a contraction of the words "ninja" and "tamago" ("egg"). The television anime adaptation based on Soubee Amako's Rakudai Ninja Rantarō ninja gag manga, which debuted in 1993. There was already an animated film made in 1996, and a new anime film will open in March, before the live-action film's summer opening.

A new teaser for Takashi Miike's upcoming live-action adaptation of Nintama Rantaro has been uploaded to the Warner Bros. channel on Yahoo! Japan.

Based on a long-running gag manga by Sobee Amako, the film revolves around an 8-year-old boy named Rantaro who attends a school for young ninjas.

The new footage seems to be geared toward showcasing the film's main cast, including newly announced cast members Mikijiro Hira and Hiroki Matsukata in full special effects makeup.

Here's the current cast list in the order shown in the teaser:

Seishiro Kato as Nintama
Roi Hayashi as Kirimaru
Fuuta Kimura as Shinbe
Shido Nakamura as Dad
Rei Dan as Mom
Susumu Terajima as Yamada-sensei
Takahiro Miura as Doi-sensei
Hiroki Matsukata as Happosai
Mikijiro Hira as Ookawa

"Nintama Rantaro" will be released in Japan on July 23, 2011.

Coming from the Director of Visitor Q, Ichi the Killer, Audition, Zebra-man 1 & 2, Great Yokai War, and a bunch of others, this looks to be the most light hearted work he has done. I like to see hard-R directors of America pull that off.......Keep up the good work Miike-san

@Jack...it might be a running gag in the manga, where they say ninja a lot, like it is a weird Adjective

@ comiccritic87

i agree that the manga did go into much more detail with certain characters back stories, but if you write a list of manga/anime films i believe battle royale is by far the best.

Miike is a [frick]ing genius, Ichi the Killer is his best film imo, I also enjoyed Crows Zero.
