The First Trailer For ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL Is Here And It Brings Manga To Life Like Never Before

The first trailer for Alita: Battle Angel is finally here and if you're an anime/manga fan, you're definitely going to love this! While it's a little disconcerting seeing a fully CGI character with massive eyes (who essentially looks like a cartoon come to life) walking around with regular humans, the special effects on disaply are undeniably impressive and it looks like it will be miles ahead of Ghost in the Shell

Rosa Salazar stars as Alita, a cyborg with a forgotten past, found and brought back to life by cyber-doctor Ido (Christoph Waltz). The movie is based on the manga series by Yukito Kishiro and also stars Keean Johnson, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali and Jackie Earle Haley and showcases the talents of WETA Workshop. They worked on The Lord of the Rings and Avatar so that explains a lot here!

What do you think of this first look at Alita: Battle Angel? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY) create a groundbreaking new heroine in ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an action-packed story of hope, love and empowerment. Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita (Rosa Salazar) is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic.  When Alita awakens she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in.  Everything is new to Alita, every experience a first.

As she learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield Alita from her mysterious past while her street-smart new friend, Hugo (Keean Johnson), offers instead to help trigger her memories.  A growing affection develops between the two until deadly forces come after Alita and threaten her newfound relationships. It is then that Alita discovers she has extraordinary fighting abilities that could be used to save the friends and family she’s grown to love. Determined to uncover the truth behind her origin, Alita sets out on a journey that will lead her to take on the injustices of this dark, corrupt world, and discover that one young woman can change the world in which she lives.

@Spock0Clock - Please do not remind me of that. As much as I love Alfre Woodard, I just hate that Cottonmouth had to die

Well...at least it doesn't seem to have the annoying anime style of kids with big heads and huge eyes open super wide with high pitched noises/voices.

Altho the big eyes on the girl remind me of that artist that does all the big eyed girl art.

@Pathogen - That's funny because Cristoph Waltz was in a movie about the woman who did them.

Damn good supporting cast. Never encountered the source material, so no idea how faithful this is. Looks okay overall. Her eyes are creepy though.

The way they animate her face totally ruins it for me. I'm a huge fan of the manga and anime. I was crazy excited for this movie! Probably won't see it now. They should have just left her face alone.

@dkminus - No joke, it's actually quite distracting imo.
I wonder why they didn't go with an actual person instead of making her complete cgi. Everything looks great- except her, but hey this movie isn't coming out for another so many months soooo they still have plenty of time to work on the effects.

@JohnMarston220 - It's more so they clearly have the real actress and then do an all CGI body when she's in plain clothes.

@dkminus - Such a weird design decision. They would surely have saved millions (and made it look better) but just using her normal face.
