2015 saw the feature film debut of Marvel's size-changing hero, Ant-Man, though his usual partner - The Wasp - was notably absent. The classic iteration of the character, Janet Van Dyne, had a very short appearance, but it's her daughter Hope (played by Evangeline Lilly) who will be taking up the mantle in the sequel. While Hope played a supporting role to Paul Rudd's Scott Lang in the first film, director Peyton Reed explained to Collider that he's approaching the sequel, Ant-Man and The Wasp, with an equal role for Hope.
“It’s something we’re excited about. For me as a comic nerd, I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that’s a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like. To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting. We really get to introduce this character into that universe. I mean we’ve introduced the character, but we haven’t seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me she’s not a supporting character in this movie. It’s every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s.”
Reed also revealed that production on the sequel will be commencing quite soon. "Assuming everything stays on schedule, we start filming Ant-Man and the Wasp in June." Are you looking forward to a proper introduction for The Wasp? Let us know in the comments!
Ant-Man and The Wasp is set for release on June 6, 2018.
