THR reports that Peyton Reed is in negotiations to return to direct the sequel to Marvel's most recent blockbuster, Ant-Man, which will feature Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne/Wasp in an expanded role.

The first movie had a pretty troubled journey to the screen, and even lost its original director Edgar Wright - but Reed stepped in and did a fine job with the finished product, which was fully embraced by fans and went on to gross $454.7 million worldwide. So, a follow-up movie was an inevitability.

Apparently there are still no writers attached, but Paul Rudd has been confirmed to reprise the role of Scott Lang. Ant-Man And The Wasp is scheduled to be released on on July 6, 2018.

MexicanSuperman - Even though it a while back, the wound is still so fresh to me! Why did Edgar Wright have to leave?!

But in the end, I still enjoyed Ant-Man and it's easily one of the better MCU movies.

I wonder how they'll juggle the writers around this time, will they bring back adam and the on-set writers, will it be necessary to have paul write again as well, or will they get a new writer all together?

MexicanSuperman - That would be amazing! Hopefully WB takes the opportunity and gets him to direct one of their movies.

I read somewhere that they are giving him an 15% raise for this one so he'll pull in a cool $85,000. Lucky guy!

Won't be as good because Wright won't be penning it this time.

@MexicanSuperman - "What about Edgar Wright? He seems like a perfect fit. Marvel better scoop him up before someone else does."

I've suggested before...

Edgar Wright writes/directs an Ant-Man prequel with Hank Pym & Janet

Peyton Reed directs the Ant-Man & Wasp sequel with Scott Lang & Hope

Although, I'm not sure Wright would do it after he waited 15yrs to make his Ant-Man heist movie with Lang. But, I honestly believe since they ended on good terms Wright & Feige would be interested/open to working together again, I'm not sure this idea would appeal to Wright as much.

Who knows though, I definitely believe there's potential for both an Ant-Man prequel & sequel. I mean, wouldn't it be awesome to see Pym & Janet with their well ahead of its time tech. in a film set during the Cold War??

Adam Mckay and Paul Rudd rewrote most of the movie..............

Yet, the movie felt more like a Wright movie than a McKay one.

I am kind of excited that they're starting from scratch now, because without Edgar directing, having his dialogue and whatnot is kind of pointless considering Edgar is very singular in his own vision, so they HAD to rewrite and put it on track to something more collaborative on the first movie, now we can genuinely 100% get Peyton's take on the character, he'll have years to workshop some cool ideas as a fan, plus some of the coolest things in the movie(ex. falcon, microverse) came from Peyton and Adam. Hopefully this creates an awesome sequel. And for anyone wondering I do love the first film, I'm just hoping the sequel delivers an awesome follow up.

@Superherodude1 - "@Ramiel Adam Mckay and Paul Rudd rewrote most of the movie.............."

Yes, they spent months rewriting the movie, BUT the majority of the story, a lot of the screenplay & visuals/action sequences were all Edgar Wright. Wright came up with the idea for an Ant-Man heist movie with Lang stealing the suit from Pym 15 years ago. He even pitched the idea to Artisan Ent. shortly after they were acquired by Marvel.

Pretty interesting/neat read:
