Evangeline Lilly Shares New Intriguing ANT-MAN Details On 'The Wasp' And 'Hope Van Dyne'

The Hobbit actress now teases an "intense and emotional" scene with Michael Douglas, and she also reveals details about Hope Van Dyne's relationship with her parents, Ant-Man & Wasp. Check it out!

During a podcast interview with Empire magazine last week, Evangeline Lilly revealed new Ant-Man details about her role as Hope Van Dyne, as well the character's relationship with mom and dad, Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. However, Lilly was first asked what it was like to play the daughter of two-time Oscar winner Michael Douglas. "When I first signed on, It didn't really occur to me how monumental or what a big deal that was," she said. "I just thought 'Oh great, Michael? Paul [Rudd]? Wonderful; great cast'. I'm very clinical about deciding what roles I'll take, so I've sort of been checking boxes, and Michael became a box I checked. [I thought] 'Okay great, they've cast that one well...moving on' and I carried on with my process of checks and balances. And then I got to work [on-set] and started working with him, and then about halfway through shooting, I had to do this very intense emotional with Michael Douglas. And it wasn't until midway through shooting this scene with him that suddenly the penny dropped and it occurred to me 'Oh my God, I'm acting opposite Michael Douglas; this is a legendary star'. He's a consummate actor, and it hit me. The reason it hit me was because I had been working with him for long enough to have suddenly kind of realize 'Oh my God, he's such a force every time he shows up on set. Every time they call action, what he brings into the room makes the room electric; it brings everything to life. And I realized I was standing before and had the privilege to be working with a living legend."

Evangeline Lilly has previously acknowledged that her character's parents are Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, aka Ant-Man and Wasp in the comics, but she now seemingly confirms that both Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne will be actual superheroes in the movie; at least before something "tragic" happens to the Wasp. "I was raised by two superheroes," she said of Hope Van Dyne. "So, I'm a pretty screwed up human being. I am also fairly capable, strong, and kick-ass, which is wonderful to play, but the most fun to play was just how messed up she was from being raised by two superheroes. And the clear message sent by name is that I'm not a big fan of my father and so I took my mother's name." Anyhow, the beginning of Ant-Man is rumored to be set in the 1960s, so we'll likely see the Wasp and young(er) Pym in action before things move into present-day. And now that we know Janet Van Dyne will indeed be a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's easier to see how Evangline Lilly's  Hope Van Dyne might eventually take up the mantle as Wasp in Avengers and Ant-Man sequels, if not at some point in the original latter movie. What do you think?

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lilly, David Dastmalchian, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, Wood Harris John Slattery and Gregg Turkington with multi-hyphenate T.I., and the film opens July 17, 2015

I like that they will show scenes from the 60's. It gives us a chance to see young Hank Pym, and Wasp.

Theory:

Hank and Scott devise a heist plan that requires two Ant-Men, but Cross's men ambush them the day before they're planning it. Hank is killed (1. Evangeline claims an emotional scene between them 2. Set photos of Evangeline helping michael when he has a bloody spot on his chest 3.Unlikely you're getting M Douglas to sign a multipicture deal, or if he did then he's just too wounded to finish it out). And so Janet takes his place as the second Ant-Person and Ant-Man & the Wasp version 2.0 is born.

Still pissed this is a more a Lang film rather than a Pym film (and he's old at that), but I am getting slowly more optimistic.
