Rashida Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard for Janet Van Dyne. Who will it be?

Last year during Paul Rudd's debate as Ant-Man for the upcoming film named after the character himself, Rashida Jones has been tipped to play Janet Van Dyne (The Wasp) as the female lead in the upcoming movie but now after Michael Douglas' confirmation as Hank Pym, another actress named Bryce Dallas Howard, the very same person that played Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3 seven years ago is now another runner up for the character. So who will be doing Janet van Dyne?

Janet Van Dyne best known as the Wasp is a female superhero of the Marvel comics and one of the first five Avengers from the original comics.

Now because the famous Michael Douglas at age 69 has been casted as Hank Pym, Janet van Dyne may have to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the love interest to Paul Rudd's Scott Lang, best known as the second Ant Man.

At first Rashida Jones was linked to doing the role of the character but now with Bryce Dallas Howard being rumored for the character, it's time for us all to decide who we really want for the character in the film.

To make both these choices interesting for all of you Marvel movie lovers and comic book fans reading this article, I'll let you all on one little treat; their relationship with Spider-Man trilogy actor Tobey Maguire. Rashida has been in relationship with Tobey in the real world before the actor got the part as Spider-Man and Bryce Dallas Howard co-starred with him as Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3.

Now lets go over the two runner ups one at a time to see who would really get the part as Wasp ;

Rashida Jones has been best known for her appearances with actors Paul Rudd and Jason Segal in films like I Love You Man, Our Idiot Brother, and the Muppets and is very concerned on certain subjects in life that would be considered unbearable like sex, which is also the same subject she agreed with Selena Gomez on one time when the young singer was crying during one of her stage performances last year. That makes her responsible just like the character Wasp and with Paul Rudd casted as Ant Man Scott Lang in the 40's, Rashida would be a very reasonable choice for the female lead in the Ant Man film and without so many other projects to be working on, she should be good to go as Wasp for the film.

Now for Bryce Dallas Howard. Before she was being rumored for the female lead in the upcoming Ant Man, we all know that she played Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3 so if she was casted as Janet Van Dyne, she would be just like actor Chris Evans getting a part in another Marvel film after recently doing one part from a previous film. Other than Spider-Man 3 she appeared in films such as Terminator Salvation and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Even though she is rumored for Wasp, she wouldn't fit the character as good as Rashida because her beauty is starting to dry out and since she is scheduled to appear in Jurrasic World which is set to premier in June 2015, chances of her being cast as Janet van Dyne are very much unlikely to happen but we'll see if she is able to multitask or not as soon as the results turn up.

Now with all said on the two contenders, please feel free to choose who you would want for Janet van Dyne and take your time. The winner won't be decided for a while now since filming isn't to start until this April.

Hands down Mary Elizabeth Winstead is the ideal Wasp. She has been linked to a couple of Marvel roles. She didn't get Maria Hill but also admitted that she did not really wanted to do something that would require multiple movies and does not do blockbusters anymore. But Marvel clearly wants her, she looks like a comic book character, and has worked with the director before. So hopefully, these rumors are false about Rashida "always going to be Anne Perkins" Jones and Howard and Winstead gets the part or both sides are open to her doing the role if an actress falls through.

Either actress would be suitable for the role.
Great article though.

How come that with the rumor about Jones being Wasp, none of the traditionalists were up in arms about a mix race Wasp like they were about the human torch or Spiderman? Same goes for every role that Dwayne Johnson has been rumored for. Last time I checked Luke Cage and John Stewart were full African American not half samoan with predominant samoan features. So, I guess it is okay to be a different race and play a white comic book character as long as that race LOOKS white enough. And it is okay for an African American character to be played by any other nationality even though it is not consistent with the comics as long as they are kind of the same shade? Lets ask Asian Superman ... I mean Dean Caine. I have been lurking here for awhile and that if the people who speak out against Michael B. Jordan because the casting doesn't resemble the comic book ...then they should have been all over this casting rumor as well as The Rock (given the guidelines set out by these people then The Rock should NEVER play a comic book character because no character matches race ...even though he is probably the one guy who is ready made to star as a CBM but unfortunately his samoan heritage dictates that he can't.) rumored casting. I respect the traditionalists view but think they need to show a little more consistency and accuracy and go after casting like this as well ...and if she does get cast throw as big of stink as you would if and when Jordan gets cast as the Torch. Sorry, didn't mean to de-rail but I am curious as to why nobody is raising a fuss in this and other articles about her casting.

Bryce Dallas Howard is Gwen Stacy for me, so I'd go with Rashida Jones who I think she's a pretty good choice for Wasp.

Rashida Jones. Besides, she used to date Starlord in Parks and Rec.

Rashida Jones is beautiful, but as an actress fitting this character - no, no, no, no, no. I cannot overstate how much I think that Jones would be a mistake to cast as Janet.

Bryce Dallas Howard...maybe. Mary Elizabeth Winstead definitely looks fantastic for the part, but all I've seen her in is Scott Pilgrim.

@Objectivelybiased -
Rashida Jones' looks are kind of ethnically indeterminate (similar for The Rock), let's be honest, most people are mesmerized by how cute she is. More generally speaking, as far as actors are concerned, ethnicity is kind of irrelevant. Appearance matters in some cases, but there is no need for an actor to have the precise mix of ancestors that their fictional character has, as long as they can act the part.

To clarify: I mean that if a character looks good in the role, like Dean Caine or even Halle Berry, it does not matter that the actor might have some ancestral differences from the character. If they look the same, good enough.

Michael B. Jordan versus classic Johnny Storm? That's clearly a more abrupt departure from the character's appearance. (I'm okay with that one if the FF film is good.)

The Rock is pre dominately Samoan in features and is mostly shaded black and Jones is definitely part African American ...seeing that her father is a very popular African American. So you agree with the above statement of "as long as they don't look like a black person they can play a white character and that the same accuracy you want for white people isn't the case with other races ...as long as whites look white."

With Michael B. Jordan he has the charisma and attitude to play Storm. Those should be ONLY things ontop of acting ability that should be looked at for any actor playing any role where the race is NOT absolutely one hundred percent pivotal to the character. So pretty much Black Panther and Magneto. Even Luke Cage I would argue doesn't need to black ...the character is an ex con from the streets ...which can be any race. Now, the double standard would come into play in this society ...but if I were a casting director, I would give the role to whoever portrayed a street smart ex con trying to do right by the world. Same case with Johnny Storm. To me, this is not gimmick casting ...it is casting based on how accurately he can portray the essence of the character. If it is gimmick casting to you that is fine and your opinion which you have a right to ...bu I just believe it is a slipperly slope to say a lighter skinned black person is okay but a darker skinned one isn't. If accuracy is the goal, that would not fly.
