Simon Pegg Talks ANT-MAN Casting; Nick Frost Would Be Interested In Playing 'The Thing'

We know now that Paul Rudd (Anchorman: The Legend Continues) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises) are the frontrunners for Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, but Simon Pegg explains here why he's not the right choice for the role despite being a fan favourite suggestion!

The World's End director Edgar Wright has been attached to direct Ant-Man for years, but the movie will FINALLY be released not too long after The Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. Over the years, many actors have been suggested for the titular role by fans, but Star Trek Into Darkness' Simon Pegg has easily been one of the most popular. "If I was Edgar, I wouldn’t cast me in Ant-Man, because I think he obviously has to spread his wings as a director and be seen not to just come with me as a package," the actor laughed when asked about possibly joining the cast of the film in a recent interview with SFX. "Same with Nick. We need to do things separately so we don’t ultimately get seen as coming as a double act. You know, Ant-Man would be enormous fun to be in, but I think Ant-Man himself has to be a lot younger than me for a start. And there probably isn’t a part for me. If Edgar asked me, I’d think about it. But as his friend and his lawyer, I would advise strongly against asking me."

As for Nick Frost - the actor who has joined Pegg in each instalment of Wright's Cornetto Trilogy - he said that "You’ll have to wait and see," when it comes to whether or not his frequent collaborator taking on Ant-Man will open the door for him to star in a Marvel movie. "But which character would I be on screen? I don’t think there are many superheroes who are big men, essentially. Who do we have? I think my choices are really nil. I think Ben Grimm or the Rhino." When the site told him that Paul Giamatti will be playing that character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and that The Fantastic Four is being rebooted by Josh Trank, Frost added: "Oh, then I could be Ben Grimm. Yeah, nice. Alright, I’m going to be Ben Grimm."

That would be interesting to see Nick play Ben Grimm. Except he would have to lose weight and bulk! I would be interested to see that :D

I hate when people write "he should of done this" instead of "he should HAVE done this". English people. Learn it.

I never understood peoples fascination with Pegg for Ant-Man other than him working with Wright in the past.

Interesting that he feels he is too old.

How old is Paul Rudd?

We do? I thought that this was just rumour. Can you link to the official statement that tells us this?

1to10: Take your pills. Actors are not excluded from exercising their rights to free speech. I disagree with Pegg about MoS, but he has every right to voice his opinion. I also refer you to Mark Waid, Max Landis, Wally Pfister, and a host of other professionals in the industry who have stated their dislike of other films in the genre.

1to10: So let me get this straight. You think actors should have their free speech restricted, because they work in the industry? Why? You prefer them to be dishonest? Professionalism has nothing to do with it. They are expressing their feelings about a film, not the people who worked on it. There's a difference. He understands that, we understand that, but you don't apparently.

You also seriously overestimate Pegg's influence if you think his opinions had even the tiniest influence over its box office. Seriously. You are being grossly over-sensitive to the point where you sound a touch hysterical.

You also betray you own bias by bringing up "comedic cbms" when NOBODY ELSE DID. Kick Ass has nothing to do with this conversation. Bizarre outburst frankly.

To reiterate; I loved MoS, but it's ok if others don't. Pegg is entitled to his opinion, and I respect it even while I disagree, and it doesn't change my feelings one iota towards Pegg. Vive la difference.

Perspective: Reviewers were very divided over the film - a LOT did not like it. These are listened to by a hell of a lot more people than listened to Pegg's opinions - by orders of magnitude - and yet... they couldn't stop the film being successful either. Disagree with Pegg all you want - that's your right - but stop short of hysterical, nonsensical ranting because it only makes your opinion seem unreasoned.

Because they're not asked? Because they're not self-confident enough to voice an honest opinion when asked? Because they don't have an impish sense of humour? Because they don't know enough about the characters to have an opinion?

Simon Pegg is a human being, and a fan. With opinions. I do not see the problem you have with it. Did you like it? Was it successful? So what does Pegg's feelings on it have to do with anything?

You protest too much for the wrong reasons. If I was able to discuss it with Pegg, I'd argue with him over it, but I would never dream of trying to restrict his ability to speak about it at all. That is fundamentally wrong.

@Gusto So that's why Miley got the new haircut! She will play Janet! Would you like to be Hank, gusto?

@1to10 Simon Pegg just shared his opinion! He didn't say that MoS sucked, he said what he didn't like about MoS! Many famous people said bad things about Daredevil when Ben Affleck was announced as Batman. Do you hate these people too? And don't say something like Daredevil sucked anyway, since according to you nobody who is famous should share his opinion. Have you ever heard about freedom of speech? Everyone can say what he wants! Look at grif, he hates everything but we just have to accept him. Look at gusto, he is a weirdo but we can't tell him anything either because he has the right to say what he wants to say!

Also: do you know this for a fact? That NO other actors/writers/producers/directors, et al EVER slate a new release on their twitter accounts? Oswald Patton has never done this? I find that hard to believe. Kevin Smith? Need I go on?
