AQUAMAN & THE LOST KINGDOM Reportedly Test-Screened - And There Was No Sign Of Ben Affleck's Batman

Despite Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa confirming that Ben Affleck would reprise the role of Batman for James Wan's sequel, it seems the character did not appear in a recent test-screening.

Reports are coming in that another test-screening of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was held last night, and according to several online scoopers, the cut of the movie that screened did not include an appearance from Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne/Batman.

"Batfleck" was heavily rumored to return for James Wan's sequel during production, and star Jason Momoa actually confirmed his Justice League co-star's involvement in an Instagram post earlier this year. This obviously suggests that Affleck did shoot scenes for the film, but, for whatever reason, Warner Bros. has seemingly made the decision to remove the character from this version of the DCU movie.

In some respects, this isn't entirely surprising. Both Affleck and Michael Keaton's takes on the Dark Knight were reportedly set to feature, which studio execs were said to be concerned about since it could potentially confuse audiences. It sounds like they haven't settled on which iteration of Batman they want the "New DCU" to focus on moving forward, which is likely something James Gunn and Peter Safran will come to a decision on down the line.

Of course, even if this is accurate and Affleck didn't appear, it doesn't mean he won't show up in the final cut. Test-screenings are used to gauge audience reaction/interest, and are often significantly different to the finished film that ultimately hits theaters.

Specific Aquaman 2 plot details are still under wraps, but it's assumed that a vengeful Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) will be the main villain this time. There's also a good chance that The Trench will feature more prominently, given Wan's fondness for the deep-sea terrors.

The director has also suggested that he'd be returning to his horror roots for the sequel, drawing influence from, of all things, campy '60s Italian horror film Planet of the Vampires.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to swin into theaters next December.

Are you sure he wasn’t in the shadows?
Maybe they’re saving the shark repellent cameo for the theatrical release.

Wouldn’t take much from this. Like said test screenings often are different from the final product.

I think we're thinking too far into this. We know for a fact Affleck filmed for this movie. They could just as easily be testing the positive reaction to batfleck to see either if he will factor into marketing or if he could potentially serve longer in the new dcu.

@Origame - So you think Keaton's in it too? Because we know for a fact that Keaton filmed for the movie too.
Origame
Origame - 12/7/2022, 8:59 AM
@ObserverIO - ...no. because the reason Affleck was brought back was to backtrack on the reboot that would've led to Keaton returning.

@Origame - But now DC Studios are in control, there may be new plans in place. New new.
Origame
Origame - 12/7/2022, 9:20 AM
@ObserverIO - it's possible. But then again it can mean nothing in regard to this movie. Again, all we have is this is a test screening. They do all kind of weird cuts to see how people would react. And aquaman 2 is still considered the old dceu, where it's still batfleck.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 12/7/2022, 9:29 AM
@Origame - True, true. Which is why it's really weird that this comes out after The Flash. You'd think they'd want the one where the timeline changes to be the last one.

@ObserverIO - dude, they're ignoring the flash. It's ending is even changing.

I would wager WB sat Miller down and gave him a Bricktop style “You’re on thin [frick]ing ice my pedigree chum…” bollocking that would frighten the most stoic of our species.

I am having a hard time trying to figure out how Batman plays a part in an Aquaman movie. Wouldn't be surprised if it's just a cheeky little post credits scene where Batfleck goes...

@BGarlz92 - My thoughts exactly. This is an Aquaman movie ffs. Standalone stories are necessary.

And then the final film will feature none of them.

Could see them make Batman some sort of JL mission giver like he is in the Young Justice show, and that's the role I expected him to have in Aquaman 2.

That said, I could easily see them take out that part as Gunn and Safran indeed haven't yet planned on what they wanna do with Batman.
