Aquaman was a $1 billion hit, and Warner Bros. wasted no time in exploring options for what might come next. That includes
Aquaman 2 and a spinoff movie revolving around The Trench.
We've heard conflicting reports about what this spinoff might entail, and some sites have even gone so far as to say that Jason Momoa and Amber Heard will be making an appearance. Time will tell on that front, but in a new interview,
Aquaman director James Wan has shed some light on what fans can expect, and it definitely doesn't sound like a traditional superhero movie.
"We, you know, we're still deep in sort of crafting the script, crafting the story right now so I don't want to get into that too much, but definitely it's one that I really want to lean into the horror of it, so it's going to play more as a monster horror movie then it will as a superhero film, but it's still definitely part of the Aquaman world," Wan said.
That sounds pretty awesome, and it's easy to imagine a number of directions this movie could be taken in with a tone like that. The Trench sequence in Aquaman was definitely a standout moment, so it's no great surprise that Warner Bros. wants to continue to explore the creatures' world.

Atlantis' Mother Box
When Atlanna is telling the young Arthur all about the trident, look closely at the coffee table and it seems as if that's not the only Atlantean relic she's recreated for the purpose of letting her son know all about where he comes from.
There's also a small box which is quite clearly meant to be the Mother Box and this would explain who the adult Arthur knows so much about its history when he crosses paths with the like of Batman and Wonder Woman in Justice League. It's hard to spot but a cool reference to the wider DCEU.
