Jason Momoa Reveals Interesting Detail About AQUAMAN's Ocean Master
A seemingly innocuous Instagram post ft. Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson has revealed a small detail about the Aquaman movie and by extension, where we'll find Arthur Curry in Justice League.
Those familiar with DC Comics' Aquaman lore know that Atlantis is an underwater civilization made up of many different domains. As such, Dolph Lundgren was recently cast as King Nereus, the ruler of the Xebel domain, where Mera and her twin sister Siren originally hail from.
Many fans assumed that the Aquaman movie would see one king fighting another but per Jason Momoa's recent Instagram post, it's Patrick Wilson's Orm who is the ruler of Atlantis, not Arthur Curry.
In some continuities, Atlanteans don't know Arthur exists and that he's the rightful ruler. In those stories, Willem Dafoe's Vulko has been raising Arthur on the surface, keeping him oblivious to his true heritage. However, the most common relationship between Orm and Arthur is one centered on jealousy, with Arthur firmly established as King and Orm seeking to usurp him. A third and more recent origin (which coincidentally was written by Geoff Johns), depicts Aquaman as having previously abdicated the throne and turned over ruling authority to Orm.
Based on what we know so far, it seems James Wan and Zack Snyder might be borrowing from all three versions.
