EDITORIAL: Why 'The Vision' Is Needed In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

The Vision is one of the more popular Avengers yet to be featured in a Marvel Studios movie, and CBMer dougieisrollingthejays thinks that's a real shame. After the jump you can read his 4 brief reasons why he fells the character should be included in the Avengers sequel.

Diversity

We have a god, a suited Human, steroid user, monster, girl, and British long bowman. Time to add in a robot if you ask me. Even though the Vision is not technically a robot, he has that A.I. mentality that I think the crowds would eat up. Watching Avengers EMH recently I have realized how funny he can be, but in a perfect way. That dry humor that comes out simply because of the way he talks. He would add in lots of great things for the team. It would also be something completely new for the comic book universe, marvel would be smart to make the first robot hero.

Henchman

Ultron is amazing. Yeah we know, but he really could use another helper. Adding in his second in command vision would be a great addition to the film. Until he turns sides of course. Its just another small reason to have the vision in the film.

Wanda

His relationship with Wanda is a huge part of Wanda herself. Really if they plan to add her, the vision can’t be far behind.

Ultron

Ultron is unstoppable! The Avengers could use some aid. I think there will be 3 confrontations with Ultron in the film. Initial outbreak, a second in between meeting were the Avengers try to bounce back and get beat up. Then the final confrontation and finishing. I would like the first one to be a very small confrontation were Ultron essentially just runs off to hiding. Then there should be an inbetween confrontation with the Vision being sent by Ultron. The Vision ends up losing, and leaves to go back to Ultron. Then the Avengers mount there attack on Ultron, when they start fighting him they just get beat the crap out of. Something triggers in the Visions mind, weather Wanda, or Captain America fighting when he knows he will die, or whatever it may be. And essentially we see a huge showdown between the two of them. Vision loses, but eventually with the help of the Avengers drives him back. He is badly damaged and needs to reboot for a long time. He does however give them information on how to defeat Ultron. Then we see Ultron’s minions take over the world (If the go this route for the story) and the Avengers must stop him. Leading to the vision being an Avenger, however out of commission repairing himself. This would help us with the “were is vision” in the avengers solo films for phase 3.

In closing just throwing out a few reasons the vision should be there with Ultron. If we in fact don’t get the vision in this movie I don’t think we will ever see him. This is the perfect chance to give him big screen time, I hope marvel capitalizes.

This would crowd the movie more than it already is

For one, you know Iron Man needs to be the most important one in the film, given the most important job to do.

Next, providing an intro for Ultron and rumored Baron villain along with scarlett witch and quicksilver

Bring back everyone else including hulk who'll need to be given an arc here.

Or Whedon might just ignore character and drama like in the first one for nonstop comedy and action

I think we get Vision in A3....Adding tons of new characters who have important roles with little or no background to develop them is disastrous. Vision is complicated and probably requires some screentime to develop..especially if they throw in the relationship with Wanda. I doubt Whedon makes that Rookie level mistake at this point...

Long story short... Vision is needed because Ultron is in the movie, lol.

LMAO did you really talk about the Vision being "diversity"...

Diversity on this team would finally be having an Avenger who isn't white. Or bringing in another woman.

I'm sure we'll get Vision by Phase 3. He's a key Avenger and agree that he makes Wanda's story much more interesting. In fact I think all of this is an obvious setup for his eventual inclusion (Ultron/Scarlet Witch).

However, it's still too early. Unless he shows up briefly in Age of Ultron at the very end or in an after credit scene it would definitely overcrowd the film. I'm also still highly suspicious of Ant-Man's close proximity to Age of Ultron. I can't help but wonder if there's a connection there somehow.

They've already made Ultron a Vision hybrid so there's no point.

@Rorywilliams yes because there are so many black superheroes that are Avengers. It is literally Black Panther.... and Black Panther... Luke Cage sometimes, but he's more hero for hire, War Machine isn't an avenger most of the time. They are bringing in another women by the way. Can't stand when people talk about how there isn't enough diversity. What I meant was its another dynamic to the team. I will listen to someone bashing the Avengers when DC, Fox and Sony have less white characters. The fact is most superheroes are white... plane and simple

@thewonderer

I dunno man, I'm not sticking up for the Avengers in defense because I too agree with some of the statements you made regards to all of the humor and action but I do know that Whedon himself stated that he originally wanted to make Ultron as the Avengers first villain. So this gives me the utmost faith that he knows the stakes of conflict set to rise for our beloved heroes. I think AOU will be more serious than the previous marvel movies we've been having so far.

I just don't see were Vision will fit in if not in this film. At least for his origins. I don't think Ultron will show up after this one. there are so many more big villains to tackle. Kang, Thanos, Korvac. Don't know if they will have time for another ultron film

Diversity is a term for showing variety/variation, the writer said "We have a god, a suited Human, steroid user, monster, girl, and British long bowman. Time to add in a robot" and was clearly talking about how it was filled with "human" characters, with the exception of one who's a "god"(alien), so yes adding a robot to a team filled with humans and one alien would in fact add diversity to the team, as a different type of character would have been introduced. There's nothing wrong with his point at all.

Vision would be nice but won't be used for two reasons:

1. Whedon does not know how to direct a movie with a large cast. Its not his fault that he is not skilled enough to balance a number of main characters in a film like Peter Jackson, Scorcese, Spielberg and Abrams have been able to do. Even in the first movie he royally screwed up Hawkeyes involvement in the movie for most of the plot. Now there are two more Avengers being added to the cast. Adding Vision would give someone as unskilled and inequipt to handle large ensembles a nervous breakdown.

2. Marvels biggest weakness is that villains really pose no threat. In Every single Marvel Studios film, the villains are either easily defeated in less than 2 minutes or the hero is put at such a severe disadvantage the villain temporarily gains an advantage. Plain and simply, Marvel does not make unstoppable and powerful villains.

Am I the only one reading these "editorials" and wondering why no one is "editing" them.

Having a good idea (not that this is one) and putting it into words is not the same thing.

Vision > vision

Neither Jeremy Renner nor Hawkeye are British...

Anyway, despite me liking Vision well enough, there's a pretty obvious reason why he can't be in this movie.

Consider who Ultron is. Whether Hank or Tony created him (here it's Tony), he is a monster. He is a failure. He is the problem.

If Ultron creates Vision in the same movie, then he would be defeating himself. That is what happens in the comics, yes, but can it happen here? No. Why?

Because of the purple alien.

What he said
I wouldn't be surprised if Vision, even Antman and Wasp show up in Avengers 2
I mean the studio can't get in trouble if they lie to us about who's in the movie or not, we just gotta go by what's offical

Maybe Ultron will fal in love with Wanda and go a little crazy, then, by the films end he will be reprogrammed as Vision and still have feelings for Wanda.

Perhaps we will see James Spader as more than just Ultron, but as a permanent member of the Avengers, in the form of Vision. Also, Ultron might create a bride for himself, in Wanda's image and as such, we might be seeing Elizabeth Olsen as more than just the Scarlet Witch.

My theory all along: Ultron corrupts JARVIS and "reincarnates" him into an android assassin code named: Vision. Then Visio realizes that Ulyron is wrong and betrays him

Idk what you mean by "British longbowmen"
Perhaps you were saying Hawkeye is British in the MCU Which he is not. Or perhaps you were saying he uses a British longbow, which is also incorrect. He uses a recurve bow in the Avengers and a compound bow in Thor, but never a long bow.

I don't think Vision should be in this film, it's already enough just introducing Wanda, Pietro and Ultron as is. I think the general audience would get confused. If they do bring him in, they should do it as a teaser or foreshadowing of a future Avengers' film.

I doubt that he's going to have that classic green and red look with the high collar, yellow cape if or whenever they decide to introduce him.
