AVENGERS: ENDGAME Directors Say There Have Been "No Conversations" About Potentially Helming SECRET WARS

Joe and Anthony Russo are constantly asked about the possibility of helming a Secret Wars movie, but during a new interview, the duo make it clear that "no conversations" have taken place... yet.

Avengers: Endgame co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo have made no secret of their love for Secret Wars, and have admitted on several different occasions that they would be more than willing to return to work with Marvel Studios again to bring the classic comic book event to the screen.

“Our love for Marvel is based on the books that we read as kids, the books that we fell in love with,” said Joe during a recent interview with Deadline. “The one series that we adored growing up was Secret Wars.”

The Russos' passion for the wide-reaching crossover tale has led to persistent rumors that the pair have actually signed on to direct a Secret Wars movie, but if fans are expecting a big announcement at SDCC this weekend, they may be setting themselves up for disappointment.

While speaking to MTV's Josh Horowitz to promote their new Netflix action movie, The Gray Man, the brothers made it clear that no official conversations have taken place with Kevin Feige or anyone else about potentially helming Secret Wars.

Of course, if a major Comic-Con announcement was planned, they're hardly going to let the cat out of the bag here - but it is worth noting that we're still not sure if Secret Wars is even going to be the next big MCU saga. It does seem to be the direction Phase 4 is heading in, but there's every chance Marvel Studios have something else entirely in the pipeline.

We'll just have to wait and see what the studio has lined up for SDCC this weekend.

Phase 4 blows and what they have upcoming blows. They need to announce Secret Wars or something big. I still can't believe Marvel just got their asses handed to them twice by a 35 year old sequel.

@IronMan616 - this is dumb. 1) Everything got it's ass handed to it by Top Gun: Maverick, and it has nothing to do with the other movies and more so this movie wildly overperforming. Even the studio didn't see it coming which is why they gave Cruise a large chunk of the potential profits.

2) You act as if Marvel is struggling. They are going to end up with two movies so far this year that come close to $1B, something only 3 of their previous solo movies had achieved.

Direction they’re heading in ???? There is no direction. If there it’s not been pushed enough to the audience.

@Supercat6376 - Do people seriously think Kevin Feige doesn't have a plan?

@thewanderer - He may have one, but does it make it a good one ??

@Supercat6376 - he's done pretty damn well so far. There's no reason to suggest that Feige doesn't have a good plan, unless you have an agenda.

@thewanderer - my agenda truthfully is to keep getting these movies for as long as my eyes and ears are capable of hearing and seeing lol past performance doesn’t always equal future success

Mephisto
Superior Iron Man
Secret Wars

When will fans learn?
Why, no article about Ms Marvel's lead admitting the studio is the one spreading fake "leaks"?

@TheHumanSpider2 - Because it was years ago and who cares? With all the hacks and leaks happening i would be sending out a ton of fake crap so the movie isnt spoiled a month before it came out. IE No Way Home, Multiverse...

@CasualAF - Its bitting them in the ass, a lot of people got dissapointed with MoM because they were expecting a lot of things that were never there...

@TheHumanSpider2 - At no point did they fake anything on MoM. This is 100% the fans fault for reaching and i have one word to prove it. Wandavision. Marvel has set the bar so high that if its not Infinity war perfection or No Way Home Crazy fan service its crap. Phase 1 was "good" so far phase 4 has been better than phase 1.

Just like Avengers: Endgame was not the title of the movie, right?

I really think Secret Wars should be the (two-part) movie to wrap up the whole saga with. The 1985 run can serve as basis for part one, and the 2015 run for part two. God Emperor Doom is too perfect not to use as the endgame villain in my opinion.

@bkmeijer1 - And in-between a full year of disney+ shows taking place on Battleworld

@ElvenKingSlayer - that would be great. Didn't even think of that yet

Seriously, why would Marvel Studios be talking with the Russos on Secret Wars, right now?! We are over 5-8 years from those films even happening. We are no way close to Secret Wars. I believe when Doctor Strange 3 happens in Phase 5, (maybe 2025) there is a direct path to Secret Wars and then Marvel Studios will start talks then, but not now!

Everyone thinking Secret Wars is just around the corner. When I think we're not getting those films until probably 2030. Reality check -it took Marvel Studios 7 years after Thanos' introduction to get to Endgame. Just because Disney+ allows more pieces to put in place doesn't quicken the process.
