DEADPOOL 2 Commitments Meant Josh Brolin Was Rarely On The Set Of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

It appears as if Josh Brolin's performance as Thanos was mostly isolated to a sound booth because it's now been revealed that his Deadpool 2 role meant his time on set as the Mad Titan was very limited.

As you may recall, there were reports quite some time ago that Benedict Cumberbatch's scenes in Avengers: Infinity War would have to be shot with a stand-in because of his busy schedule. Well, in a very interesting turn of events, the actor has now revealed that it was actually Josh Brolin who was absent from the set of the Marvel movie and that a stand-in ended up doing much of his mo-cap work.

"They used a stand-in for Josh. Josh wasn't in there for much, he did his bit and then a lot of stuff with a lot of us and him was missing because, I guess, he was doing Deadpool 2 and I was doing Melrose and The Current War," Cumberbatch revealed before noting that he personally was actually on set for the majority of time despite reports of his face being painted over that of a stand-ins.

"But we made it work," the British actor continued. "It's often the case you can act with other actors anyways, in certain scenarios because of the amount of additional stuff you have to fit in with the environment or the magic or whatever it is that's coming out of your hands or your ass."

While it's a shame to think that Brolin wasn't actually there, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel have never set foot on the Guardians of the Galaxy sets for shooting and that's never had a negative impact on their performances as Rocket and Groot. That's a point reiterated by Cumberbatch in regards to Brolin's work on Avengers: Infinity War (and let's face it, he probably knows better than us). "I don't feel robbed of the opportunity, and there's plenty of footage showing there's definitely all of us there."

Damn. I don't think I like how some of the things have been handled behind the scenes. Such as the actors not knowing the script, or them not knowing who they were acting with as explained by Tom Holland in some interviews. Kinda disappointed Brolin wasn't really there for the most part. I hope it lives up to the hype.

@Roodi - I doubt it will mainly because it has so much hype. It could be considered disappointing if it doesnt cure cancer.

@Roodi - As long as the movie's good, who cares what happens behind the scenes?

Not surprising. Happens often. The Civil War airport battle was shot over a few weeks and many of the actors never even worked with each other in that scene. Plus, Brolin was the first one they were working with when production started, doing mo-cap work.

@MosquitoFarmer -

how nice
I'd like to have a "job" where I do not have to be present,
get the credit
and get the money
and yet be recognized as a good performance

wow......

@Equivocal - Don't know what you're talking about. He still did the performance, just not with many of the other actors themselves. Ruffalo had a fairly short shoot on Ragnarok, but he was still a prominent character and played the part. Look at Benedict Cumberbatch playing Smaug in The Hobbit. He did his performance without working with Martin Freeman. It's Hollywood blockbuster film making. Robert Downey Jr. often barely works with the other actors since he is hidden within the Iron Man suit.

@MosquitoFarmer -

"They used a stand-in for Josh"

that's what I mean ↑

@Equivocal - A stand-in is usually for the sake of another actor's pickup shot. Juggling a cast of this magnitude with all these huge actors' busy schedules requires that they can't always be available for the entire production.
