Does The AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Trailer Really Spoil THOR: RAGNAROK's Ending?

The Avengers: Infinity War trailer kicks off with a very interesting scene featuring the God of Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy but does that spoil Thor: Ragnarok's ending? Perhaps not...

The Avengers: Infinity War trailer - which you can find an in-depth look at by clicking here - kicks off with the Guardians of the Galaxy coming across Thor as he floats through space. Most of us have assumed that means Asgard is destroyed at the end of Thor: Ragnarok or that the hero is left stranded after being defeated by Hela and/or Thanos but director Taika Waititi has now claimed otherwise.

When io9 caught up with the filmmaker at Comic-Con last weekend, they asked him about that scene possibly spoiling the ending of Thor: Ragnarok and he replied "No, actually. No," in what they describe as a surprised tone which was followed by a laugh. So, what exactly does that mean for the Asgardian?

We now don't know but there are a variety of different possibilities. Thanos could attack Asgard early on in Avengers: Infinity War and Thor's meeting with the Guardians could be from the midway point. It's also feasible that this is an excerpt from Thor: Ragnarok's after-credits scenes and the answer of how the hero got there will remain a mystery. What do you guys think? Well that's what they said about the Homecoming trailer not really spoiling the movie. And it totally did so...

I'm thinking Ragnarok ends with Thor venturing off to find Thanos. Once the two meet at the beginning of IW, Thor is defeated effortlessly and thrown through space, eventually colliding with the Milano.

This might be the case because for those of you who've seen the leaked trailer, the shot in which Thanos is squeezing Thor's head looks like it takes place in a similar location to where the Guardians find him in space.

Just speculating though, lol.

@Spodermug - That's a very good speculation.

I still think the Guardians find Thor in the beginning of IW and whatever happens to him, happens till the end of Ragnarok

@kylo0607 - totally agreed with you on this one.

@DCRISEN0609 - Don't get me wrong, I like @Spodermug 's theory, but I think IW already has a lot of stuff going on in it so that would make it even longer.

Even though, the Russos recently said IW will be at least 2 and a half hours long so...

@Spodermug - I dig that idea. Thor leads the guardians to earth after thanos comes looking for the space stone and destroys asgard to do so. That's when the guardians send half their team to check the reality and power stones while the avengers and rest of the guardians get their asses kicked.

@Spodermug - I'm not to clear, but does Asguard exist in another dimension or simply is in a region of space in the universe (atleast in the MCU).

If it is set in the same universe, I assume Asguard is destroyed. How it happens I could guess: Thanos showing up for stones + rescue Hela , Hela defeating Thor on her own and triggering. Personally, I feel it will be Hela that defeats him, they will want to keep the films itself singular, instead of having a direct connection to Infinty war with Thanos showing up.
But I do feel the Guardians showing up to find Thor is them intending to show up to Asguard, to find it destroyed (think the Millenium Falcon finding the asteroids of alderann). I assume they would first head to Nowhere to get the owner stone and find it in ruins, with the collector telling them the other stone is in Asguard.

After the events of Ragnarok, Thor will realise that someone is after the stones, and will rush back to the Collector to get the Aether before they do. Thanos will defeat Thor, squeezing his head until he is unconscious. He will then destroy Knowhere, leaving Thor Floating in space. Guardians will probably come to the same conclusion about Thanos collecting the stones and get there too late, finding the remains of the Collector's lair and shortly afterwards, find Thor in space.
