Jeremy Renner Remains Open To A HAWKEYE Movie But Reveals Why Marvel Should Hurry Up

There have been rumblings about Hawkeye getting his own movie for years now but in a new interview, Avengers: Infinity War star Jeremy Renner has a very specific request for Marvel Studios...

Jeremy Renner made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Thor way back in 2011 and while there has often been talk of a solo movie for the archer, the character has remained a supporting player (something which could be a result of the actor not taking off as a leading man after The Bourne Legacy). So, what are the chances now of Hawkeye getting his own movie as we head into Phase 4?

During a recent interview, Renner was asked if he's open to giving Hawkeye the spotlight and replied, "It would be a wonderful thing. Just don’t wait too long! I don’t want to be in my 50s in tights." The clock is ticking on that ultimatum
because the Avengers: Infinity War star turns 47 next month and we still don't know whether or not the character is actually going to make it out of that movie alive!

Either way, Renner has been playing Clint Barton for seven years now and it's hard to say if there's actually much of a demand for the Avenger to get his own movie. What do you guys think? Would you pay to see Hawkeye? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Do Secret Avengers with Hawkeye and Black Widow. Have it take place in between Civil War and Infinity War when they are fugitives but still doing their hero thing.

Netflix would totally be the place I'd love to see this, but ultimately, those shows DO NOT connect to the larger MCU.

Shame too, because Fraction's Hawkeye would make an awesome light-hearted Marvel/Netflix show to be a change of pace to the darker, gritty Defenders Universe. But while also being pretty separate from the other big heroes, he could fianlly get a chance to shine!

@xfan320 - You know Disney is gonna have their own streaming service...

@xfan320 - I absolutely don't understand the argument that the don't connect to the larger MCU. They absolutely do, even if they don't continually reference them by name.

Would they work on their own? Sure, but that's due to (generally) good storytelling and narrative. If every few episodes relied on a Cap reference it would get tired fast, something we saw early in AOS.

@MNLawyer - I don't get this either. They've made enough references to show that the Netflix shows exist in the MCU. Every Marvel character doesn't need to be involved in the Avengers stuff. In fact I prefer it that way.

Some characters work better on their own, like Punisher.

@MNLawyer - the tones of the two universes don't match up thematically, in set design, costume design, in the level of violence, or in the quality of visual effects. They are two completely different universes, and they don't mention one another, besides someone making offhand references in the netflix shows.

A canceled tv show has been referenced in the movies, but not one that is actually supposed to exist? People act like the defenders are special, madam gao acts like the world is changing because of their sudden appearance. What, have only some characters heard of the avengers? are they even called the avengers? or just big green guy and magic hammer guy.

they are not connected, and they never will be. Disney just lies to us to keep up the illusion that their universe is bigger than it really is.

totally forgot agents of shield was a thing

@ALostClause - Why would any of the big 4 know who the Defenders are? SHIELD/Fury could but they don't exist, Spidey and Strange are possible contenders but they havn't had enough screen time to delve into street level heroes.

The Netflix series cost 40M per season. The movies average in to about $175M each.

Not MCU but Deadpool is the closest at $58M

As a real world example, I like football. I watch it every Sunday, but I probably couldn't tell you more than a handful of players on teams other than the Packers (despite my name I'm not a vikes fan)

JJ was almost killed because of collateral from the Avengers; Hammer Tech and Roxxon are mentioned explicitly in the shows; Fisk was essentially entirely made because of the Incident, etc.

@MNLawyer - while I understand they're connected in the larger scheme, they really aren't...

Will Daredevil ever get referenced in ANYTHING? Vincent D'Onofrio ever show up as Kingpin in a Spidey movie? How about the Avengers FINALLY finding out Coulson isn't DEAD?

My problem is that the shows DO NOT get referenced AT ALL by the movies. Like AT ALL...Theres just no symmetry between the two. Marvel needs to connect their TV and Film Studios ASAP to rectify this problem for the fan's sakes. ESPECIALLY considering they have all their rights back and unlimited storytelling potential!

Budapest.
Keep the budget tight.
Hire a great fight choreographer.
Make it similar to Winter Soldier.
Lesser known Marvel characters here and there.
