The anticipation for Marvel's
Avengers: Infinity War rivals most any cinematic endeavor in recent memory. Along with the hype, however, also comes some trepidation. For most the main point of concern with the upcoming film centers around its antagonist, Josh Brolin's Thanos.
Understandably there are those that fear after 6 years of build-up, since the character's first appearance in 2012's
The Avengers, he won't live up to the hype and that his larger-than-life nature and threat could easily be cartoonish leaving us with an "action figure" villain.
In the lead up to the film's release,
Avengers: Infinity War directors and Kevin Feige have taken great pains to assure people that the Mad Titan will indeed have depth and nuance, even going so far as to alter his comic book motivations for something with a more grounded and sympathetic sense of morality.
Speaking to
ScreenRant the writers of the film; Christopher Markus and Stephen McFreely, revealed that at one point the level of their dedication to the depth of Thanos' character could have been described as biographic:
Christopher Markus: I mean, I sort of remember him saying in the conference room one day something like, are we talking about a Thanos biopic? And everybody kind of going, yeah, we are? You know, don't expect. you know, a purple baby being born at the beginning of the movie.
Stephen McFeely: But it is, it's a lot on his shoulders.
This will certainly bode well for those looking for a villain worthy of the finale event of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it and with the Russo Bros already revealing that those characters not at the forefront of this film will be front and center in the Avengers 4, that should prevent any concerns for a balanced ensemble in
Infinity War.
What do you think? Are you happy that we'll be exploring Thanos' character to this degree? Or would you rather we spend more time with Earth's Mightiest Heroes? Leave your thoughts below.
