Avengers: Infinity War is poised and ready to be one of, if not the biggest superhero movie events of all time. With that in mind, Joss Whedon has now stated that despite Thanos still being the puppet-master behind everything, we shouldn't expect to see him all on his lonesome in the two part Avengers epic. He said in an interview with Vulture's Kyle Buchanan:

Who else could possibly join Thanos? Villains we're yet to meet? Possibly the return of the Red Skull? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

My guess is that Loki will take the Mephisto role from Infinty Gauntlet, and Nebula will be back to do her part in that story as well.

I would pass out if I saw this in live-action.

Marvel could use Mephisto if they wanted to. They have the rights to Ghost Rider now.

Speaking of which, Ghost Rider series on Netflix. Make it happen, Marvel.

It sucks that FOX owns the rights to Galactus. You would think the character has essentially ascended just being a Fantastic Four villain into an overall Marvel villain, so MS would be able to use the rights. Like how QS and SW are mutants but join up with the Avengers, so they can be used by both.

Best scenario: Thanos and his Black Order.

Other scenario: Loki and Red Skull act as a makeshift Black Order. This option is not nearly so exciting.

Nebula will also be an antagonist of sorts.

Kang should've honestly been the villain for A2. But he'll have to be heavily simplified. Bring him in can also be the easiest way to have the Time Stone play a huge factor, and different from how the others are treated more or less like Macgiffins. Still say him being the villain for GOTG 2 is likely.

From what I hear, Marvel is retconning that it was every in Odin's vault.

Thanos might already have the gauntlet, sans stones.
