MARVEL'S AVENGERS Star Jeff Schine On A Sequel Possibly Adapting CIVIL WAR And SECRET EMPIRE - EXCLUSIVE

When we caught up with Marvel's Avengers star Jeff Schine, we talked about which comic book storylines the sequel could adapt, and where he thinks Captain America would ultimately fit into that...

Marvel's Avengers borrows a lot from the comic books, but ultimately tells a mostly original story. With the focus primarily on Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, it ends up packing a real emotional punch, and is definitely an exciting, epic experience.

Captain America is also a big part of the game, and [Spoiler Alert] his return sets the stage for a huge final battle against M.O.D.O.K. and A.I.M.

Ultimately, we learn that Steve Rogers has been kept on ice by A.I.M., with the super soldier blood that pumps through his veins used to transform George Tarleton into their monstrous leader. Of course, with Cap in their custody for so long, we couldn't help but wonder whether they might have done something to the Avenger that possibly sets the stage for a loose Secret Empire adaptation in the sequel.

In that comic arc, Steve fell under the control of HYDRA, but what if A.I.M. brainwashed him? Marvel's Avengers star Jeff Schine would be open to exploring that down the line.

"I'm always interested in exploring as many sides of a character as possible, so if that was the way the team felt like we should travel with Cap for a bit, I would be up for anything. As far as I'm concerned, as long as you always stay true to who the character is and you're not just doing anything for shock value, if it's grounded, then I think nothing is off limits."

We also suggested that Civil War might make a good basis for a follow-up to the game, and Jeff would go on to talk in detail about how that could happen and how the team would be split.

"It would be tough," he admitted. "The team comes together and reassembles by the end, but it still feels...there's still a fragility. They came such a long way over those years when Cap was gone. I don't know how the split would be. I think the most conflicted would be Bruce, Kamala, and Thor. I think Widow would ultimately probably side with Cap. For me, it would be heartbreaking for Kamala."

"She's already seen her heroes disassemble and worked so hard, really as the pivotal part of the group, to bring everybody back together," Jeff continues in the video at the bottom of this post. "I think it would be devastating for her, but definitely an interesting storyline."

A Civil War-style video game would be epic, and while Earth's Mightiest Heroes have now reassembled, it might not take much for them to be split right down the middle all over again.

Marvel's Avengers is available now on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia. If you haven't checked it out, we highly recommend you take a look at our review here

Talking about a sequel is utterly pointless when they’re going to continue to support the first game for the next several years.

They won’t even start working on a sequel for years, let alone put it out

@PicolasCage - came here to say the same thing. I'm sick of hearing about a sequel when this game is supposed to keep going for years.

There are more storylines than Civil War and Flashpoint.

I don’t think civil war would be interesting the only reason I can see them doing civil war is because they can’t figure out what to do with everyone at once. Thor pretty much got nothing to do during the main and Cap came at the end.

Do secret invasion and have us playing with sit-up from time to time but not knowing it or something original. Give us better boss fights as well. Someone worthy of being ganged up on by the avengers rather than ol Tasky

@MyCoolYoung - The other cancelled Avengers game had a good idea going on with Secret Invasion and the superskrulls. Would be cool if they took inspiration from that.

@Darth258 - I hadn’t heard. What was the idea?
Darth258
Darth258 - 9/23/2020, 9:10 PM
@MyCoolYoung - A first person game (terrible idea imho) back in the ps3/xbox360 gen set during Secret Invasion, there was some leaked early gameplay and test footage, the concept art was cool, the execution not so much, not surprised it was cancelled.

@Darth258 - just read up. I wouldn’t of liked the first person aspect of it but everything else was spot on. The team up attacks sound amazing and should’ve been in this game.

@MyCoolYoung - I really liked their (Ultimate) Thor design, but that was it..

@MyCoolYoung - Maybe they'll add them, there are already the double takedowns on the dreadbots, they just need to add something for the smaller enemies.

Before the developers have any thoughts on a possible sequel they need to fix the busted first game first. Even with the latest massive patch there's still a lot wrong with it.

I think this is probably one of the most broken games to be released in this current generation. There are just so many various bugs and glitches in all facets of the game it actually boggles the mind that it was released in that state.

@bcom - it's been working fine for me. I'm only about 50 hours deep but so far it's one of the better games this year

This game kinda just came and went huh? Every time I hear something about this game it's about how buggy it is and how it's sorely lacking content.
bcom
bcom - 9/23/2020, 4:35 PM
@TexasAvenger - Yep. It got more news for how broken it was over how good it was. That's the annoying thing though, fundamentally the game itself is pretty good and fun to play but the initial experience was ruined by some genuine game breaking bugs.

First impressions count and this game didn't make a good first impression with a lot of people.

@bcom - The cosmetics and micro transactions are very lackluster too.
Darth258
Darth258 - 9/23/2020, 6:41 PM
@TexasAvenger - It's been also out for three weeks. This genre of games add content over time. Maybe one fault it has is attracting people too used to single player games that had everything from the start.

Eh neither story was all that great. Mostly remembered for their Aw and shock moments

@Godzillakartt - From what I've seen online, this game isn't even complete. I'd wait a good while tbh.
bcom
bcom - 9/23/2020, 4:38 PM
@Godzillakartt - It was buggy as hell at release but just last week they released a massive patch that addressed a lot of issues. There are still a few glitches and bugs though so I think this is going to be a work in progress for quite some time. I'd wait a few months until a few more bugs are fixed and more of the DLC is available. Right now, it is not worth the cost of a full priced game.

TheBlueMorpho - 9/23/2020, 4:46 PM
@Godzillakartt -

I did. It's good. Glad I bought it. But it will improve with DLC and such. Has it's bugs but I'm enjoying it.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 9/23/2020, 5:15 PM
@Godzillakartt - it’s pretty fun but buggy. You can wait for a few dlc drops
Darth258
Darth258 - 9/23/2020, 6:43 PM
@Godzillakartt - Wait for a couple characters to be released and for the bugs to be fixed, then you're good to go.
FearTheLiving
FearTheLiving - 9/23/2020, 4:35 PM
I mean... the whole point of the game is it's a live service that updates itself with characters and new storylines. There shouldn't be a "sequel" at all.
TheBlueMorpho
TheBlueMorpho - 9/23/2020, 4:53 PM
@FearTheLiving -

But this a a business so there will be a sequel if it sells well enough.
FearTheLiving
FearTheLiving - 9/24/2020, 7:18 AM
@TheBlueMorpho - Then they should have released it as a stand alone experience with paid DLC. If they are literally talking sequel this early that's not a live service in the slightest... that's just a franchise.
TheBlueMorpho
TheBlueMorpho - 9/25/2020, 2:21 PM
@FearTheLiving -

What medium to large size company wouldn't want a franchise? Hell even a small one would. To think they would just have one game and release DLC over the years and not making a sequel is a bit naive.
FearTheLiving
FearTheLiving - 9/26/2020, 10:59 AM
@TheBlueMorpho - I never said it wouldn't eventually happen, but to literally talk about sequels now basically after the first game just released and they are suppose to be adding free story updates is an extremely greedy mindset.

Not to mention prior to this it sounds as if they wanted to do spin-off titles in the same vein but with different teams for different games not Avengers 2 and more so Guardians of the Galaxy.
Mercwitham0uth
Mercwitham0uth - 9/23/2020, 4:43 PM
Waaaaaay too early to be talking about a sequel.
TheBlueMorpho
TheBlueMorpho - 9/23/2020, 4:51 PM
Well since you already have robots in the game I think the way to go is....

Have Ultron take over A.I.M. and run with it
Invincible91
Invincible91 - 9/23/2020, 5:13 PM
@TheBlueMorpho - perfect 👌
Darth258
Darth258 - 9/23/2020, 6:34 PM
@TheBlueMorpho - Yay.. more robots..

I know there's already the whole subplot with Pym and Roy but i'd like something different moving forward. Maybe Dormammu and hordes of demons, or a Skrull invasion. Kree are already coming probably.
TheBlueMorpho
TheBlueMorpho - 9/23/2020, 10:45 PM
@Darth258 -

I get that. Probably would be more suitable to have a Ultron story DLC instead of a sequel if you want to get away from robots.

They should adapt "Dark Reign" and "Siege", "Civil War" was adapted in MUA2.

But if they do, LEAVE BUCKY AND TONY'S PARENTS OUT OF IT !
