Avengers Rumor Debunked! Will NOT Face Off Against The Skrulls And Kree as Reported

The information recently published was in fact due to "a research error" by the New Mexico newspaper taking the chances of the team facing off against the aliens right back to being nothing more than rumor...

After Ain't It Cool news stumbled across an interesting newspaper article in the Albuquerque Journal (reported here on CBM by our own DCMarvelFreshman) which stated that, "...the Avengers battle with two alien races, the Skrulls and the Kree," the earlier rumours about this were given a lot of extra credibility. Well, the guys over at SuperHeroHype have done a little digging and confirmed that this statement was nothing more than the newspapers own research rather than information they'd learned directly from Marvel who recently confirmed that they would film there.

SuperheroHype has confirmed that the information published in the Albuquerque Journal was not officially released through Marvel Studios and can instead be attributed to a research error on the part of the newspaper.

While this does not preclude the film from featuring the Kree or the Skrull, there is no hard evidence to date to suggest their inclusion.

As they point out, this doesnt mean that they won't feature in the movie, but as everyone from director Joss Whedon to stars like Tom Hiddleston and Mark Ruffalo have hinted at them following the classic Avengers vs. Hulk/Loki storyline, I think it's fair to say that's the most likely option of what we'll see. Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012 and stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson.

Good.

We need the Hulk/Loki conflict for first film, definately!

I can see the Kree/Skrull war taking place during Avengers 2 or 3.

I don't understand how people are wanting the hulk/loki storyline for the movie. For a comic book it works but not for a two hour movie, and on top of Loki being the main squeeze in Thor!

Thats good news. I agree with RockNRoll. Have them do the Hulk/Loki conflict at first, then bring in the Skrulls later on

ThaMessenger07 - 12/27/2010, 11:49 AM
I Don't think that is the most likely story I still feel the Skrulls with a bit of Loki influence and a final battle with the Hulk is the most logical and likely storyline to be displayed. It would be stupid to re-use a villain as the main threat only a year later.

@Josh, Just my friendly 2 cents, but you might want to change the article headline. It's implying that they are definitely NOT facing off against S&K, as opposed to it just being back to an unknown status.

I don't care who they fight in this movie but I hope it is a good enough movie and does well enough at the box office for DC to get motivated to make a JLA movie!

@ Arminies if it's an Invasion they won't be in space. Also one of the main reasons it makes sense is because these films take a lot of influence from Ultimates and Whedon said in an interview that they are taking from the regular continuity and the Ultimates. In the Ultimates the Black Nick Fury gathers the Ultimates to fight an alien invasion from a shape shifting race called the Chitari also known as the Skrulls.

It would be stupid if he was just making a team because it's a Tuesday. Plus Thor will open the world up to more "Impossible" Technologies.

@ Intruder: It's not X-3'n it. It has been done in a 70 minute animated film it can be done even better in a 180 minute film with the characters already introduced.

This is the best news I've read in a while. I think it's funny that most of the people who have been complaining about The Avengers being overcrowded with hero's, would like the idea of The Kree and Skrulls as enimy's.

Keep it simple, there are dozens of film worthy villains in The Avengers history.

Great find Josh, but no matter what, I still believe it.) Even though I believe the Loki thing even more for the first movie, and Skrulls and Kree for sequels.) I just don't want the fact being this possibility dismissed overall.

I agree with everyone that says this is a good thing. A large chuck of this movie will focus on the team coming together, meaning they'll have to cover stuff like...

-Nick Fury allowing Tony Stark to become part of the team
-Finding Captain America in the ice and reintroducing him to the present day
-Thor becoming part of the team (if they don't do that in his solo film)
-The introduction of Hawkeye and Black Widow to the team
-Continuing Bruce Banner's story from The Incredible Hulk
-A proper introduction for S.H.I.E.L.D as a whole, and the Helicarrier

They're just a few of the most important things they'll need to do in the movie! All of that deserves at least an hour, with the second half of the movie focusing on their first mission of taking on the Hulk who is being manipulated by Loki. There's no way that they could squeeze in a version of the Kree/Skrull war after doing all of the above. Save that for future movies.

DCMF: They should most definitely have the Kree and Skrulls in the sequel because that would hopefully result in the introduction of Captain Mar-vell and the birth of Ms. Marvel! The third movie should have the team taking on Ultron. (whose creation should be featured in Ant-Man and The Avengers II IMO) I just want to see this to be honest:

JoshW: HAHA, agreed. I'm actually hoping The Avengers 2 will introduce Ant-Man and Wasp to the team, as well their villain Ultron. I'm curios as to what Hulk will battle besides The Avengers. I can't see Loki taking on them all at once. I'm sure he'd use reinforcements, but what or who?)

Thank God for that. Sorry comic dorks, but that storyline just won't work on film. Too intricate and convoluted. Super heroes are enough, dragging aliens in would just be a hot mess.

DCMF: Well, in the second volume of The Ultimates (when the team finally take on Loki) it goes a little something like this:

(You can find the full sized image by clicking HERE)The Avengers taking on the whole of Asgard? That my friend seems like some awesome [frick]ing reinforcements, lol!

BaneKill77: Haha, definitely! Captain America kicking the Hulk in the balls would surely be one of the greatest CBM moments ever! :D

Don't just assume that it's ONLY Loki and the Hulk. Who knows, maybe the Enchantress shows up. Maybe Skurge is along for the ride. But I think that a Loki/Hulk movie would be just fine. I like the idea of Ultron for Avengers 2 and then Kang for Avengers 3.

Why are there so many people with a lack of imagination.

@ Intruder: There is no need for Build up. The stepping stones will be set by the movies that have already come out. Iron-Man starts the World, TIHulk opens it, Iron-Man 2 expends the mystery, Thor opens the universe and the unbelievable, and Cap introduces an oncoming threat. Avengers is fury gathering them, Loki maybe pulling strings as an undertone and an epic battle at the finale. It isn't convoluted, and the Ultiamte Avengers animated film was nothing to extreme. Once again if Thor is a Norse God/Alien form another Dimension with Immensely powerful Technology why would another alien invasion be hard to swallow?

If there is any sense in anyone's mind they would understand that this film will fail if there focus is Hulk and Loki who had already been the villain in Thor only a Year before release.

If Red Skull goes mystical in the Cap movie (cosmic cube),he could have conjured up something with Loki that will come to fruition in the Avengers. However, that can't be the threat that is bringing the Avengers together, and the Nick fury storyline seems to point that they're getting ready for something in particular.
They're not assembling for the Hulk, that would be stupid considering the ending scene in TIHulk. Also, they can't be assembling for Loki; if they knew about him that would make Thor's appearance a little anti-climactic and a ridiculous coincidence.
An alien invasion makes the most sense for why the team is assembling. This can be set up in the Cap movie. Also, Loki could start messing with them (and the Hulk in particular) and be the main villain in the first movie leading up to an invasion.
They could also have the invasion happen during the first movie, and have Loki attempting to get his revenge on Thor through the Hulk at the same time. That would be a crazy friggin' movie.

@ Intruder

I'm not trying to insult any ones intelligence and if I have I kind of don't care. It wasn't my intention and if you get that from what I read then sorry.....I guess???

Loki is an Epic Villain but he will be in Thor 1 & most likely in Thor 2. He should be in avengers but only to the level that Joker would be in TDKR and as a cameo and influence to the plot. Loki will be used only a year prior as the threat. It is ludicrous to not see that as too soon yet complain that Luthor is being used to death.

It doesn't need to be the Kree/Skrull war but the Skrulls would make for a more Logical blockbuster then recycling what has been seen already. Plus it is an alien invasion, they have been done to death but never like this. It is a simple plot that would explain the gathering of the team. A skrull film with Loki pulling a few strings is the only to intelligently set up this film.

It's a combination of Ultimates Vol. 1 with the Alien Invasion. Avenger 1 with Loki pulling strings to take out Thor and using Hulk. Within the backdrop of the story you introduce a Kree alien in the end to establish that there is more to come. You use Ultron and the Masters of Evil for a Second film and you have wiggle room in the third film to try and not make it suck.

ThaMessenger07 - 12/27/2010, 2:10 PM
@ Intruder no what we should see is

The Avengers, Shield, Hulk, Loki, Skrulls, and Enchantress.

Everything else will be small parts. Supporting Cast. I mean have you ever seen "Snatch?" The Cast is huge and there are like 10 sub plots that connect to the primary story. That is the only way to treat these films and make them actually good.

You should check out my editorial. It didn't get much love but if you read it you can see how it would work either way but would be safer to go with Skrull. It's my Opinion and I feel it's the best way to go.
