Preview screenings aside, Avengers: Endgame doesn't officially open in The US until tomorrow, but the Marvel superhero epic is already off to a fantastic start at the international box office.

After just one day on release overseas, Endgame has amassed a whopping $169 million. That haul is comprised of $107.5 million in China, $8.4 million from South Korea, $7 million in Australia, and $6 million from France. The movie shattered day-one gross records in all of those locations.

Some analysts predict that the Russo Brothers-directed ensemble could make as much as $300 million when it opens stateside, but most seem to be sticking with a slightly less impressive $260. Either way, the movie is expected to take in more than $800 million globally over the course of its first weekend.

Have you guys been to see Avengers: Endgame yet? If so, what did you think?

@Kyos - But Thanos ultimately knocks out Steve there..

@Nebula - Yeah, he does. I don't think Endgame will be able to beat Avatar in the end. I'd be happy if it did, though.

@Kyos - Hope it will.

@Kyos - Yeah... nobody is going to be toppling that until inflation puts it in arm's reach.

At the same time, though, I'm sure Marvel is happy with the kind of return on investment they get. Cameron spends years piddling around with technology and obsessing over ever little technical minutia (generally without making detailed narratives or compelling characters to occupy them), and then makes a big chunk of change. But in the same time frame, Marvel has put out seven or ten films, all of them just as enjoyable for most people, and each grossing about a quarter to half of what Avatar did.

As a financial enterprise, Marvel feels so much more sustainable. (Not that I think Cameron is without merit, but I just wish he would devote himself to telling better stories and not ripping off the ideas of other people).

Even at 260 that would still be the biggest domestic weekend ever.
300 always seemed a bit high but we'll see.
Midnight showing was hyped, I'm exhausted gonna wait a little while for a second showing.

I read somewhere it needs to average $65,000 per screen to reach $300 million. That’s a tough hill to climb.

No one seems to be as optimistic as I am with the numbers. I think at this point it’s pure logic as to why and how we will see $300M + book it!!
