AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Very Nearly Featured The Return Of Thor's Grandfather Bor

The majority of the God of Thunder's screentime in Avengers: Infinity War was spent seeking out a weapon capable of killing Thanos but the Russos have now revealed some alternate plans for the hero...

There are a lot of great story arcs for Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War but among the most interesting was the God of Thunder attempting to track down a weapon he could use to kill Thanos. Ultimately, the hero managed to get his hands on Stormbreaker and buried it in the Mad Titan's chest just moments before he snapped his fingers and wiped out half of all life in the universe.

However, during the director's commentary for Avengers: Infinity War, Joe Russo revealed that there were a lot of alternate ideas thrown around regarding Thor's story arc and one of them included bringing back Bor, a character we first met in the opening few minutes of Thor: The Dark World

"We explored a lot of different ideas of where Thor could go for that weapon," he explained. "We even had versions of the story at one time where he was going to visit this sort of ghost of his dead grandfather - which was one version we were playing with that we didn't end up using. I am happy where we had settled." That would've been fun but maybe not as exciting as what we ended up with.

Then again, it would have been another cool way to link Avengers: Infinity War with a movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's past! What do you guys think? As always, share your thoughts below.

Sorry.

Thor should visit valhalla in a film.

@TheBillCipher - isn’t that where they’re going in Avengers 4? Remember that set photo where there was a stand in raccoon and it was inside of some place that had the statue against the wall? The same statue that’s seen in Thor’s vision from Age Of Ultron where heimdall and all the dead asgardians were? “Valhalla”

@TheBillCipher - this is exactly what I was thinking. It's only logical to see him journey to the afterlife to get a reunion of sorts with Odin, the Warriors Three, Loki (maybe), etc.

@Nebula - Actually, I completely disagreed with this video. Like I get the point he was trying to make but Thor already had all the motivation he needed to go after Thanos, sacrifices don't need to be made after he had already lost everything. Thor wasn't on the hero's journey, sacrificing to acquire something, he was on a journey of vengeance, things were taken from him and now he is getting the weapon he needs to kill the man responsible. I think the guy who made the video didn't get that, it wasn't that kind of arc for Thor, he is already a fully grown character and he isn't going on this journey to learn and grow as a person, he is going on this journey with the single goal of killing Thanos with a weapon that he knows where to get.

@JustAChillFan - It works both ways - I think the video's version would've made that section less of a boring trek.

I know people would have compared it to Justice League but I wouldn’t have minded a similar scene showing Odin or Bor fighting off Thanos along with other heroes as if Thanos tried going for the Infinity Stones before

@DarkArrow19 - I actually prefer everything now having some mythologcial background exposition. One of my problems with justice league to be honest.

Then again, it would have solved all those damn gaunltet confusions.

I love the Asgard history/mythology (marvels version), there are comics about their ancestory and also a story about Loki manipulating a resurrected Bor into attacking Thor.
But i agree that using Bor in IW would make things to complex in such a (already) long movie.

@BlackBeltJones - Wipe out half the universe, all just to [frick] Cate Blanchett.
StormXmen123
StormXmen123 - 8/6/2018, 8:09 AM
@BlackBeltJones - she better be in A4.

While I biased because she is my fav MCU villian, she would be a great cameo. Have Thor travel to Hel to bargain for Loki's soul.
StormXmen123
StormXmen123 - 8/6/2018, 8:12 AM
@BlackBeltJones - I still think they should have made him be in love with Hela.

They could have still made him complex while being in love with her. He is ultimately trying to appease her by ending half the life in the universe, but he try's to justify it to himself by claiming over population is problem.
