The opening of Disneyland's Avengers Campus is likely to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Dan Fields, the executive creative director of Disney Parks Live Entertainment, has today revealed some major details about where the land fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Simple answer? It doesn't!
"This campus exists in the real world, and therefore, those heroes are here and keep an eye on us, keep us all safe," he explained to ComicBook.com. "There's no apocalyptic snap happening in this campus."
That explains how and why Iron Man is still alive, and it also means that when Spider-Man battles Doctor Octopus in the Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure attraction, that will have no bearing on what's going to happen in the Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel.
Jillian Pagan, the story lead for Avengers Campus and staff writer for Walt Disney Imagineering, elaborated by stating that this land is set in divergent timeline that has, "a shared history with the films. [W]e live in a version of the multiverse where there are some characters who did not sacrifice themselves for us. They are alive and well and now welcome you to it."
Avengers Campus is currently scheduled to open on July 18, and there's thus far been no mention of that release changing despite all Disney theme parks being forced to close their doors indefinitely.
