Edward Norton's Agent Responds to The 'Hulk' Recasting

The agent of actor Edward Norton, who was recently replaced as Hulk in Marvel's upcoming Avengers, has issued a response to the dilemma. Check it Out!

Fans everywhere are still buzzing, after Marvel Studios' president "Kevin Feige" issued a Statement yesterday confirming that The Incredible Hulk star "Edward Norton" would not being Hulking-out in Marvel's hero-clash "The Avengers".

Now, Norton's WME agent Brian Swardstrom, responds (via HitFix) to Feige's statement saying that Norton had already indicated his interest in being part of "The Avengers" cast, but out of nowhere learned that he was being cut out even as salary negotiations were under way.

Swardstrom's Response...
"(Feige's) offensive statement ... is a purposefully misleading, inappropriate attempt to paint our client in a negative light. Here are the facts: two months ago, Kevin called me and said he wanted Edward to reprise the role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers. He told me it would be his fantasy to bring Edward on stage with the rest of the cast at ComiCon and make it the event of the convention. When I said that Edward was definitely open to this idea, Kevin was very excited and we agreed that Edward should meet with Joss Whedon to discuss the project. Edward and Joss had a very good meeting at which Edward said he was enthusiastic at the prospect of being a part of the ensemble cast."

"Marvel subsequently made him a financial offer to be in the film and both sides started negotiating in good faith. This past Wednesday, after several weeks of civil, uncontentious discussions, but before we had come to terms on a deal, a representative from Marvel called to say they had decided to go in another direction with the part. This seemed to us to be a financial decision but, whatever the case, it is completely their prerogative ... this is no excuse for Feige's mean spirited, accusatory comments. Counter to what Kevin implies here, Edward was looking forward to the opportunity to work with Joss and the other actors in the Avengers cast, many of whom are personal friends of his."

With Joss Whedon directing, The Avengers supposedly begins production February 2011 with this "different" Hulk direction, Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) confirmed. And Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Nathan Fillion (Ant-Man), and Eva Longoria (Wasp) unannounced. The film hits theaters May 4, 2012.

DCMF - Though the Oscar nominated actor has yet to respond directly, it seems "Norton Vs Marvel" is the case we're in yet again. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige and a few special guest,(Thor, Captain America, and some Avengers cast members) are scheduled to appear at the San Diego Comic-Con July 24th, Saturday. And while there, they're expected to reveal inside looks into their upcoming films. Hopefully they'll be a liberty to discuss this dilemma. But I'm sure with all the fans wondering what went wrong, they're gonna reveal something. What do you think?

I actually find this statement very credible and truthful, sounds like Feige blindsided Edward.

Anyone going to Comic-Con, let Kevin Feige know, if anyone has his work email or work address, lets flood them with emails and phone calls. This is bad PR for Marvel Studios and this blindside can tarnish the film

I've never liked most of Kevin's decisions, he's kind of a tool. Hopefully we can see the 'big three' at Comic-con, though.

They should have a brawl between Norton and Feige at SDCC. Think of how many people would pay to see that.

I really wish he would play Bruce Banner :( But it looks like it wont happen. Im still excited about Avengers though, nothing can take that away. Atleast its better than DC recasting every single character in their Justice League film :)

Now that I know how this went down I can rightfully say that this news pisses me off. Seems like there was no good reason that Norton was booted from the Avengers, I wonder if it is too late for Feige to apologize.. Bastard.

@Tyler
Maybe that could help Marvel give Ed a bigger pay

Nah but I thought Norton was into staying as Bruce
I give up on him

I knew something was up since Norton was ALWAYS willing and eager to do more Hulk. Sounds like Feige just has a personal grudge against Norton. Real shame for Marvel to boot one of the best actors they had. ComicCon is going to be interesting to say the least.

I like Edward Norton, and if he leaves, fine. But don't begin ANOTHER reboot of "The Incredible Hulk" while it's still two years old. At least keep Louis Leterrier's universe, and just recast Bruce Banner. Tim Blake Nelson's portrayal of Samuel Sterns was loopy enough to make him play a credible Leader.

Oh cry me a river. Sounds like an agent who couldn't make a deal for his egocentric and difficult-to-work-with client. If he was such a shoe-in for the part a couple months ago why was he begging fans to do petition campaigns for him to return. Something still smells fishy to me.

Quasimodo, lol i think his nipples were bleeding :)

@Poni, i think Marvel and his agent were going back and forth trying to figure out a contract but im pretty sure his agent was asking for more money, Marvel doesnt have time to [frick] around so they just decided to stop negotiating.

It's as I thought. Marvel would've wanted Norton back, but he would have to drop his fee to something they could afford. Bruce Banner, for all intents and purposes, would be little more than a minor character in the overall Avengers movie.

I'm sure they offered Norton a fee on part with what RDj, SLJ, and the other "big names" would be earning. It shouldn't have been about the money for Norton. It should've been about making movie history.

Nope, Norton was always on board. He was asking for petitions months ago because that's when this all happened. We only found out about it recently, which is why they're responding.

I just don't understand this. If this is indeed true I think the decision to keep Norton out of the Avengers came from somebody way up the chain of command at Marvel or Disney. If you watch the extra features of TIH you will see that Feige and Norton apparently got along great.

I really hope it's all a publicity stunt in order to take the PRIZE at Comic-Con.

fanboiii@ Exactly...Norton was always on board, but when he knew they weren't going to kiss his rosy behind he had to ask the fans to try to bail him out. ;-)

I was very vocal back at that time about his ego driving the petition campaign and thought it was lame, while most everyone else was clamoring to post a petition on their blog or site.

Another direction? I bet Banner won't even be in The Avengers. Sure, they'll mention his name, but Hulk will be the main focus, so I kinda understand this.

The ONLY way Marvel could redeem themselves is if Banner is left out completly, but if they do give us a NEW Banner, then F*** MARVEL!!

Damn studio heads, or d**k heads for that matter.

@Ranger14 Yup, but you're assuming that Norton was making some kind of demand when that isn't clear yet especially when his meeting with Whedon went well. Maybe this was financial, or maybe Marvel wanted a completely different approach to Banner.

wow this just bombed the avengers movie!
the director sucks to start off with, now its most significant role in the entire movie lost the best actor in the entire series!
