Marvel IS Looking For Another Female To Join The Avengers

Despite recent reports of Demi Lovato joining the cast being debunked, THR report that Marvel does indeed want another lady in The Avengers lineup..

Having been offline all over the holidays I missed the hubub surrounding this story. If you have too, a report over at Radar Online suggested that troubled Disney actress Demi Lovato was first in talks for, then had actually landed a role in Joss Whedon's Avengers. This was quickly debunked as aside from anything else, the young actress is currently in rehab! But, just because Lomato is not in the running doesn't mean Whedon and Marvel are not seeking another lady to join the fairly testosterone dominated Avengers Lineup. According to The Hollywood Reporter..

Sources say Marvel is looking for another actress to, um, (un)beef up the lineup, although in typical Marvel secretive fashion, the role is not being revealed. (Anyone want to take bets it’s the Wasp?)

I'll take that bet. She is definitely the most logical choice. But of course, we all know how things can go in movie land. Its by no means a sure thing. Serenity actress Morena Bacarrin was rumored to be up for the role of Janet Van Dyne a while back and when questioned about it did not deny it, simply saying "I would love to work with Joss again". Not much to go on, but one thing is for sure, with Scarlett Johannson's Black Widow currently the only female in the ensemble I'm sure many fans will hope that Wasp..or some other female Marvel character comes on board to shake things up a bit!

Well they had that statement about Pym and the Ant-man movie. It is looking like we may get our original Avengers on screen even if they just play a support scientist role.

"wasp" or "ms.marvel" for the team.

"enchantress" for the villain, along with "loki" & the "hulk".

Good stuff Ror. Baccarin also had this to say when asked about the possability of portraying the Wasp at this years NYCC...

"I wish I had more information for you.”

"All I will say is I will never turn down an opportunity to work with him. He’s one of my favorite people in the world.”

That sure isn't a flat out denial.

Wasp without Ant-Man? Nah. It can't be Ms. Marvel unless they are introducing the Kree. But they might do that. My money is still on the Skrulls showing up. It could be Scarlet Witch, but probably not since that kind of bring in mutants (do they have the rights to her?) Could be Mocking Bird. What other female Avengers regulars are there?

GREAT CHOICE :)

I doubt the wasp especially if there is a rumor of her being in the Ant Man movie. Maybe it will me Ms. Marvel since they are rumored to be fighting the Skrulls and Kree? Like maybe she is a sleeper cell Kree agent already on earth gettign close to the Avengers team.

Wasp would be logical if they want to set up Antman movie and keep it close to the comics but it'll probably be Sharon Carter or Ms. Marvel....

@LEEE - Perfect Choice!

if its a major character like wasp i just dont see why they would keep it a secret. they announced everyone else and even had them hold hands together on stage at comic con. they havent really been secret about there lineup or cast so why start now.

Jessica Drew??

She ties in with SHIELD, AIM, HYDRA and even the Skrulls sooooo she would make some sort of sense.

I remember reading somewhere a while back the there would be a female villain, black widow would be the only female avenger but not the only female in the film. my bet is enchantress

I would play the part. That is if I was a woman and not arching for the mighty Monarch. Ohh wait I quit arching for the Monarch.

@superdog Marvel is beyond secretive with their casting practices....they were only open with the casting announcements at Comic-Con because they needed to lock in Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner...if anyone remembers the Captain America casting there was so much misinformation and last minute casting for it...

besides Widow there aren't any current female heroes with powers in the Avengers lineup..personally I'd like to see Scarlet Witch because Jon Favreau was going to put her into Iron Man 2 before Emily Blunt (Black Widow) left and he had to cast Johansson in the role...Scarlett was going to play S. Witch apparently....the character's involvement with Avengers could trump her ownership with Fox..

it could also be a small SHIELD role like previously mentioned like Maria Hill, Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel), Sharon Carter or Hawkeye's partner Mockingbird....I just hope they hire actual actresses and not eye candy from television shows...
ChristopherM
ChristopherM - 12/29/2010, 9:33 AM
@Orphix I'd love to see Jessica Drew but they'd have to abandon the Spider-Woman thing...it would be too confusing for the average audiences to see that name and not think Spidey...

plus I think Jessica would fit better in the SHIELD film or Captain America 2 because of her history with HYDRA...
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 12/29/2010, 9:39 AM
A good choice for the film is an older Avenger. If they made her either a member or captive of SHIELD it would give them some sort of reason to know of an impending need to assemble an Avengers team. I think Moondragon would be a great addition. Have her in a SHIELD cell somewhere with ShIELD prying info out of her.

It won' be Scarlet Witch...She's owned by Fox as part of the X-Men package.
But if it's not Wasp, it just proves that Marvel is doing the same BS that Fox is doing with X-Men:First Class.
I truly was hoping Marvel would be the ones to do an "adaptation" and not a "movie version".

Choices are:

1. Wasp - not likely given no casting on Ant-Man
2. Scarlet Witch - cool choice, but big can of worms
3. Mockingbird - 50/50
4. Ms. Marvel - maybe Carol Danvers if they're using or setting up Kree/Skrull story for Avengers 2/3
5. Maria Hill - 50/50
6. Sharon Carter - 50/50
7. Enchantress - definite maybe
8. Hela - prob not

Who else?

My thought is Sharon Carter. It would give Cap a richer story arc, more conflict, connection to his past.

Michelle Monaghan (MI3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang)= Maria Hill

Jessica Chastain (The Debt)= Mockingbird

Don't discount Wasp just because there is no Ant Man folks. It could be a good way to tie them together come the solo Ant Man flick. But, there are lots of possibilities.

Great find Ror...I agree with the consensus. That if there is no Pym there shouldn't be a Wasp but I bet thats what we get, I will still be stoked.

@80sFace

I think Marvel is going to have to try to keep certain characters in the their own realm..like how they're keeping Pepper and War Machine in the Iron Man films...Sharon Carter who is a great character for Captain America sequels could hurt or slow down an Avengers film....

It makes sense especially as fans have made it clear how much they want to see either The Wasp or Ms. Marvel in The Avengers! It's worth noting that that Disney girl could have actually been up for role of Janet as she's about the right age for when Hank met her in the 616 universe, rather than a scientist of about the same age as she is in the Ultimate one. Rather than rush the two of them into this movie though, I'd rather they just introduce a powerless Carol Danvers as a S.H.I.E.L.D agent, making her Ms. Marvel in a sequel.

@Ror: Edgar Wright is going to want to cast - or have a hand in casting - Wasp. So unless they have that script ready, greenlit and Wright is involved in casting Wasp, it's not going to be her. I've worked in development, that's how it is. It's possible, but unlikely.

@ChrisM: Sharon Carter being a SHIELD agent makes her more relevant to the Avengers story than Pepper. Pepper only serves a purpose for Tony's relationship, and War Machine means paying Cheadle top-line $$ and more in $$ in FX. I don't think Carter slows/hurts an Avengers story and it would enhance Cap's arc. That said, it's all speculation and you make good points.

Excellent find ROR! I'm glad I can trust my source! But it was sorta obvious they were looking for someone else. I'm just curios who it'd be. I wanna say Jessica Drew.)

I understand the reason behind a powerless Ms. Marvel, but I would love a jaw dropping surprise. Let's say 2nd to final scene is Hulk versuses Avengers. Hulk is laying waste. When Nick Fury hits his comlink and says "WE NEED HER NOW!" A streak of blue and yellow burns the sky, and explosive punch shattering windows follows as Ms. Marvel intercepts The Hulk.

well is'nt the ultimates version of carol denvers 2nd in commmand of SHILED and eventually takes over. well they could make her apart of SHILED in this one keep her in the background and in future sequels make her become Ms.marvel, which means kree involvement that would work smoothly, but i am hoping for wasp though
ChristopherM
ChristopherM - 12/29/2010, 10:23 AM
@80sFace agree to disagree then :)

I don't think we'll be seeing Cap's arc the focus of the film I believe it will most likely focus on Banner/Hulk and Hawkeye...but that's my understanding... since the two are sort of anti-heroes and are painted as villains at certain points... I think seeing Hulk transition from villain to hero could be great along with Hawkeye going from hero to suspected traitor...
