Its really happening folks. Marvel and Paramount will get the cameras rolling on the most highly anticipated CBM of all time early next year...

SuperHeroHype has learned that Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios are planning to start shooting The Avengers in February, 2011 for a May 4, 2012 release.

It was already rumored that it would be around Feb when Marvel would have get things moving to make their scheduled release date, but this confirms it. As SSH notes, the shoot date is not long after Sony will begin filming the Spider-Man reboot in December, and both movies will shoot in LA. Maybe the studios will join forces and give us a Spidey cameo in Avengers? Yeah, maybe not.

The Avengers will be helmed by Joss Whedon(Most likely in 3D..see article below) and stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson.

I think it would be cool even if they just had Andrew Garfield Cameo by trying to take pictures of the Avengers like Peter trying to get the first picture for the Daily Bugle. No one would know who it is except for us fans. As long as they dont say Peter Parker or Spiderman, I think it will be all good.

February? YESS 6 months only! Hm will be filmed in L.A? seems cool. Hope we get set pics leaked, will be bad to have the lack of set pick, like Thor was while filming

@ToMMan, There's something wrong with it when it's used as a gimmick just because it's the trend in big movies right now. And in most cases it is just done because other people are doing it, not because the film makers think it really adds a lot to the movie.

Even if this movie is as bad as the F4 sequel, it will still be my all time favorite movie!

@Unfriendly: It seems like the Spidy movie is having a lot of trouble getting off the ground (no ComiCon appearance). Lets keep our fingers crossed that Spidy might be coming home to Marvel/Disney!(I know it's a long shot, but we're fanboys! We can hope for whatever we want!)

Awesome! The Funny thing is that Sony is looking to under-merge there Studio.

Under-Merge is when you don't get bought out but majority property goes to the company you are merging with.

Sony is currently looking to do this and if they decided to go with Universal or Sony. HEY! You never know, maybe we can get a crossover from Sony :)

@Ashley: YES! I'm hoping the reason for the Spidy no-show at Comicon was because Marvel/Disney is currently fighting to get him back under their roof. And no, I don't think just the "fanboys" would know. It would be bigger than the SLJ "Avengers Initiative" reveal at the end of Iron Man.

Hellebus
Hellebus - 8/10/2010, 10:02 AM
@ Blacksmith: What's being rushed exactly? They've had the casting done and set obviously. The script is already written so all that is left is to shoot it. They need to get it in development before the other projects can begin so.... let's get it done.

What would you rather have them do? Stare at the wall for months contemplating changes to the script and possible chances at bombshelling the whole project before it begins?

people can keep hoping Marvel gets the rights back to their other characters all they want, but it isn't going to happen.

Kevin Feige said as much. They have no plans whatsoever to get those characters back. its going to be a long long time. Those studios aren't going to give them up until the CBM age of movies is long dead, and they can't make money off of them.

@ blacksmith and jay

i have a hard time thinking its being rushed considering that its been in the works since before the first Iron Man movie came out...thats a long time of planning my friends.

Excellent. It's nice to think that by this time next year, there'll be plenty of information about The Avengers rolling in as it is at the moment about Thor! (and Captain America soon as well hopefully!)

Awesome.

And while I agree with @CDB about the Marvel movie rights, it's not like it's impossible. Disney's got enough stroke to pull it off...

Pre-production is the most important time in any film. If you screw something up there creatively you ruin the hope for the rest of the film. There was less than a year between the premiere of Iron Man & the start of production of Iron Man 2, which people could say caused some problems with the script which caused problems during production (felt by RDJ and Favreau) which eventually made the film less enjoyable to an extent for the fans leading to mixed reviews! Dominos at the end of the day. From working in productions myself you can never have enough Pre-Production time. I just hope they don't run to the goal of Production without making sure everything is completely polished.

@ Hellebus & CorndogBurglar, I'm as excited as the next person to see them together, although all I can do is think that they are putting to much hype into The Avengers project, instead of putting it behind Thor and Captain America, I feel one solo film before The Avengers for these characters is not enough. Its also a shame Fox owns the rights to alot of characters, I still npray that one day I'll see Wolverine up against The Hulk.

@JaySchluffy, Couldnt agree more mate.
