There's a lot of excitement surrounding Batgirl - no great surprise when Barbara Gordon's live-action return is long overdue. Throw in the fact that we'll see more of J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Michael Keaton's return to Gotham City as Batman, and the movie really can't get here soon enough.
Unfortunately, we don't know when the movie is actually going to be released. With a Christmas setting, the expectation was that it would be released on HBO Max this December. However, The Flash's delay and a change of leadership at Warner Bros. now points to Batgirl debuting theatrically sometime in 2023. Considering the project reportedly cost over $70 million to produce, this was to be expected.
While we still don't know for sure whether the DC Comics adaptation will play on the big screen in the U.S., it appears it is destined for UK cinemas next year.
Warner Bros. UK has shared an updated release schedule, and Batgirl is listed under 2023 as "Coming Soon." HBO Max doesn't exist on that side of the pond, so it's hardly surprising that the studio would choose to go with a traditional release as it would be a potentially huge blunder to drop it on Sky or Digital platforms (even with a pricey marketing campaign).
We've verified that the information below is correct, and we're guessing this means Batgirl is still a long way off from being released.
Filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah knocked it out of the park with Bad Boys For Life and the Ms. Marvel finale, so it's fair to say the Caped Crusader is in safe hands. Also joining Leslie Grace as Batgirl in the movie are Brendan Fraser as Firefly, Jacob Scipio as Anthony Bressi, and Ivory Aquino as Alysia Yeoh, Barbara's best friend.
Stay tuned for updates on Batgirl!
