BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN And JUSTICE SOCIETY: WORLD WAR II Animated Features Officially On The Way

DC FanDome may have ended on Saturday night, but an extra panel was shared by IGN yesterday for Superman: Man of Tomorrow. We'll have a review of that animated adventure for you a little later today, but for now, we have details on the 2021 slate of DC Animated Universe features revealed during the panel.

It's already been confirmed that Batman: Soul of the Dragon is the first title coming our way next year, but that's now set to be joined by Justice Society: World War II. It seems as if the plan is to head back to the DCAU's past to explore the formation of this world's first superhero team, the Justice Society of America (interestingly, "of America" is absent in both this title and Black Adam).

After that, we can look forward to a two-part adaptation of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's critically acclaimed series, Batman: The Long Halloween. That followed the Dark Knight early in his career as he attempted to track down a killer who struck only on holidays. Along the way, the hero clashes with many of his most iconic villains, including The Joker, The Riddler, Scarecrow, and Poison Ivy.

Both of these movies will be released a few months apart in the second half of 2021, so it's going to be a busy year for fans of the DC Animated Universe (all these titles sound extremely exciting).

Other than Action 1000 and Superman's return from the dead in the '90's, I haven't bought comics since the late '80's. My nephew gave me his extra copy of The Long Halloween and it was so good! I mean Sale's art fit the mood so well although some of it was too cartoony for my tastes (The Joker, Sofia and the Riddler for instance), but overall and some of the classic villains were also too cartoony such as Scarecrow and the Mad Hatter, but overall it was so good. Please do this right.

Hell yes! I've got all the original WW2 JSA stories from the All Star Comics Archives so I can't wait for that one!
I hope Hawkman gets a major part in it he was the only member who was a part of the team from 1940-1950 the others just came and went but he was always there. He deserves some love.
Also please no Batman & Superman in this their original roles in the JSA were basically non-existent.

OT: I hope some crafty photoshop person will add white eyes to the new Batman screenshots to see how it would look.

It's not too late, DC. Give Pattinson the white eyes Batman deserves, in post production.

The Long Halloween is interesting, since The Batman also seems to be inspired by it. Although The Batman is also giving me strong Hush vibes (the animated movie version that is)

I was hoping for DC Animation to switch to a miniseries format thanks to HBO Max. That would be the proper way to adapt long halloween. Oh well

Is Man of Steel the start of a new series of connected animated films? I imagine The Long Halloween is an elseworld film. What about Justice Society?

@JorelEsquire - Yeah. I'm guessing that Justice Society: World War II (animated; Spring 2021; they are teasing Black Adam as a voice (my guess)) is to prep future audiences of the Black Adam film on the history of the JSA. I am super-stoked about JSA getting all of this attention in an animated film and apparently on the big screen.

This is it. This is the test that will officially confirm whether or not DC animation is truly back on top.

Also, unpopular opinion:

Dark Victory > The Long Halloween

I am happy to hear about the JSA getting a movie for them. It was long coming.

I also think they should've capitalized more on the hype and good feddback they got from last year's Justice League vs The Fatal Five and continue to expand more on the Legion of Superheroes they introduced there. They are insanely rich characters.

It has been 9 years since I read The Long Halloween, looking forward to it.

I think I know why they left out “of America” in Justice Society of America.

Leftists, liberals, and anti-American commies.
