Details For BATMAN: ASSAULT ON ARKHAM And SON OF BATMAN Animated Movies Confirmed

As well as when we can expect the two adaptations to be released next year, previously expected plot details for DC's animated features Batman: Assault On Arkham and Son Of Batman have been confirmed.

At San Diego Comic-Con last week, three new DC animated films were announced for 2014: Justice League: War, Son Of Batman, and Batman: Assault On Arkham. We knew that the former is based on the New 52 Justice League "Origin" story arc, but details for the other two were initially sketchy (but drew in solid speculation). Now, The World's Finest has confirmed some specs for the direct-to-video features. Son Of Batman, which is targeting a Summer 2014 release and is currently in production, is based on Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert's 2006 "Batman And Son" storyline, which introduced Damian Wayne/Robin to the DC universe. Cast and crew details are unknown, but will be announced later this year or early 2014.

As for Batman: Assault On Arkham, the movie will be released Fall 2014 and takes place in the same universe as the highly successful Arkham video games. Talent from the franchise will be involved with the film, and it will contain "fresh" animation rather than reuse game footage. The video game series' next installment, Batman: Arkham Origins, hits shelves October 25th. Finally, The World's Finest has confirmed that voice recording for the first DC animated feature of 2015 is underway. Which of these films are you looking forward to most?

If it looks anything like the CGI trailers from the Arkham games, I'm very excited...

I'll be interested in seeing all of them, but if Assault On Arkham is an original story, and it uses CGI animation that looks similar to the games, then I'll be looking forward to it the most. I hope it's not just a rehash of Asylum, City, or Origin's plots, fresh animation or not, it's really unnecessary.

looking forward to Justice League War just because it directly follows the events in Justice League Flashpoint Paradox.

I've never seen two consecutive comic arcs covered like this and I'm pretty excited for it.

Son of Batman sounds good too.

DC is really pushing the New 52 into their animated universe which, IMO, is a very good move.

anybody that's seen JLFP and seen the revamped "New 52" Flash costume will know what I'm talking about.

FINALLY Some Arkham Animated stuff! That game and it's story was just begging for some kind of adaptation. I'm hoping this is something that takes place between Origins and Asylum. I'm curious if it will be CGI or just another animated film. if it's CGI then they better do Kingdom Come next!!!!

If talent from the game franchise will be involved with the film does that mean it will be CG?
Because if so thats gonna be awesome.

I have never read a single page of any New 52 comics so I look foward to see what the heck DC did to its comic universe.

And I never heard of Damian Wayne until he had a small role in Blackest Night...So it will be cool to see his story as well.

I have read Dark Knight Returns and Superman/Brainiac and Justice League: Tower of Bable, S/M:Public Enemies, S/B:Supergirl, Year One....so I seemed pretty comic savvy the last couple of movies.
But with these upcoming films (other than Arkham which I played) I sound like Ive never touched a comic before.

I'm guessing Troy Baker is gonna be voicing in the Arkham one since Hamill said he would only come back for a Killing Joke adaptation.

@Nomis: It'd be awesome if they did that! Son of Batman is what I would love to see though. I wanna see how they will handle Damian's violence and brute force.

They are releasing a Deluxe Edition of The Dark Knight Returns that combines both parts into one film, but you don't need that if you already own both parts.

Awesome list. I'd love to see all of those.
Sad thing is though that way back when Wonder Woman and Green Lantern: First Flight came out WB/DC was working on Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. They also were working on Wonder Woman 2 and a Batgirl movie.
But then WB said the WW and GL movies didnt do as well as they wanted and declared Superman and Batman to be the only 2 poperties that are profitable. All the projects were scrapped and we got SM and BM ever since.
Gamera623
Gamera623 - 7/24/2013, 10:34 AM
@Nomis
Oh I stand corrected. When the GL live action movie came out WB did Emerald Knights. But that movie was bad and the animated movie did poorly.
So now WB is more confident than ever that Bats and Supes are the only way to go.

And if we are doing just BM and SM....my suggestion would be The Long Halloween.

Right on Nomis... Blackest Night should be made into a film. Sadly... I really think the movie and the failed animated show ruined that possibility for now.

Teen Titans DESERVES a good movie after they befouled them with the funny show. Judas Contract would be the best idea for that.

If they want to do more with Batman, bringing out Damian is a breath of fresh air. How about Batwoman or maybe No Man's Land..? Something really different from what they've been giving us.

I still want to see Swamp Thing and maybe Animal man get a chance... maybe in a one shot, like they did with Green Arrow and Jonah Hex.

@Gusto,
Captain Carrot? Is that what you're calling it these days?
I'm excited for the Arkham one but SofBM is a waste in my opinion. I just hope that we see some more pre-52 adaptations, like, Kingdom Come, for example.
I'm also bummed that there won't be anymore releases in 2013. The re-release of TDKReturns shouldn't count!

Also, as far as other characters are concerned, they need to do an anthology of 25 min features. This way they could combine new characters with some Batman or Superman cameos if that's what they need to do to sell DVD's, etc.

AS much as I love Superman and Batman, there are other DC characters that could use some movie love.
