Tommy Lee Jones Hated Working With Jim Carrey So Much On BATMAN FOREVER He Shook With Rage

Jim Carrey has revealed that Tommy Lee Jones detested working with him so much on Batman Returns that when they crossed paths in a restaurant, his co-star shook with rage and confessed his hatred for him.

The chemistry between Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever was interesting, to say the least, but an extra layer has now been added to that thanks to the reveal that the latter despised his co-star. The DC Comics adaptation was a huge departure for Jones and his more serious body of work and he clearly didn't enjoy working with the eccentric Carrey if these comments are anything to go by.

Talking about a chance meeting with Jones at a restaurant, the actor - who played The Riddler opposite his co-star's Two-Face - revealed that things ended up getting seriously awkward between them both.

"It was at a restaurant, and the maitre de said, ‘Oh, I hear you’re working with Tommy Lee Jones. He’s over in the corner having dinner.’ I went over and I said, ‘Hey Tommy, how are you doing?’ and the blood just drained from his face. And he got up shaking – he must have been in mid-kill me fantasy or something like that. And he went to hug me and he said, ‘I hate you. I really don’t like you.’ And I said, ‘What’s the problem?’ and pulled up a chair, which probably wasn’t smart. And he said, ‘I cannot sanction your buffoonery.'"

Awkward! Asked why he thought Jones felt this way, Carrey explained that he believes his take on The Riddler might have turned him off as he simply wasn't enjoying himself on the movie regardless of his co-star's antics. "He might have been uncomfortable doing that work, too. That’s not really his style of stuff." That's a fair point but Jones did return to the genre for Captain America: The First Avenger.

TLJ has a sense of humor, but he is not a fan of absurdity and nonsequitur, it seems. Hence his reaction at that Golden Globes bit a few years ago.

@NoAssemblyReqd - But I 100% guarantee during filming for The First Avenger he went to the bathroom a few times to question his sexuality.

Everyman questions their sexuality in the presence of both Chris Evans & Hayley Atwell. They ask "Am I not straight enough for her?" Or "Am I in love with him?"
